Can't believe people are still harping on about that 5000 km / 3 month deal.

Every single brand new car we've EVER owned came with a REQUIRED 5,000 km / 3 month service interval. And all of them would nag you on the phone to come in. Except with the CR-V. And even then, the only reason Honda didn't call us every six months was because we did 10,000 kms in just two to three months.

If you think Hyundai is being unreasonable with the 5k / 3mo interval, you've never owned a brand new car before...

My previous Ford was 5k / 3months... as was the TDCi. They were stricter about the TDCi, but they relented when we told them it barely did 5k... a year.

Why, oh do please tell why, my brand new hyundai grand starex bought in 2011, with a pm schedule of 5000km/6 months in the owner's manual, would suddenly need to be serviced every 3 months? What could justify this change 4 months after i purchased the vehicle and be told that their much advertised 5 year warranty will be voided if i do not follow?

Cite the owner's manual, then if the dealership persists, write a letter to the DTI with a cc: copy to the dealership to shut them up. All dealerships say that warranty hinges on the interval. But if they have no paper documentation in the initial agreement to back it up, they can't enforce it.

Or threaten to change dealerships. There are dealers who like to take advantage of people (note: bad apples for Honda, Toyota and Ford, too). That doesn't mean all of them do.
