    hi, i was shopping on cars, 1 salesman pointing out that his cars was better than the others coz it was a chain drive..,can u please tell me the difference of the two,? advantages and disadvantage of the two..? does it really need to consider this on buying cars??.. im looking on pick up cars.. tnxx

    No need to replace it when you reaches certain kms. Unlike pag belt

    Ang maganda lang sa timing chain hindi basta agad napuputol at iingay lang ito na binibigyan ka ng warning kung papalitan mo ito lalo na pag sa umaga pag start mo ng makina at mawawala rin ito pag umakyat na langis sa makina . Sa timing belt pag ang ugali mo gamit lang ng gamit ng sasakyan hindi bagay ito sa iyo pag naputulan ka ng belt malaking gastos . Pag naputulan ka ng belt siguradong ihihinto ka nito at pag pinilit mong start makina maaring mabaluktot ang valves nito.

    Yap, less headache at less maintenance ang timing chain vs. timing belt, kapag nakaligtaan mo PMS ng timing belt at biglang naputol, yari na....baka isang karton ng gamot sa sakit ng ulo di pa sapat sa laki ng magagastos...

    luckily, timing chain na yung Forte ko....

    most new engines naman ay t.chain na na may auto tensioner....so when buying new car with modern engine, chain na yan. remember kung used--dapat oil-free ang t.belt--kung di dudulas yan at mabubungi..

    yap bro, mostly binabalik nila sa timing chain,kasi puro problema sa timing belt....pero marami pa din ang de timing belt ngayon....

    for me. it does not matter. pareho lang din sila for replacement for a certain peroid of time. marunong ka lang mag magmaintain ng car ka.

    yup, hindi for life ang chain, dapat din palitan specially pag maingay na... my sentra series 2 (B13) ay chain, up to now di ko pa napapalitan but the last time i checked it medyo maluwag na unlike before...

    OT: buti di na ibinalik yung timing gear na pibra like sa mga old model corona, mas mahirap ma detect kung bibigay na o ok pa lalo na kung second hand nabili yung car...

    if your shopping for pick up, may isa ka pang pagpipilian, katulad sa dmax gumagamit siya ng timing gears

    i mean tahimik ang tunog ng engine pag belt and mas matagal naman ang lifespan pag chain...

    naputulan ng timing belt yung ranger namin dahil sa isang loose screw.

    inabot ng close to 30k just to get her running again. sarap.

    Timing belt - maki maintenance, lagi monitor or else laki sira sa makina
    Timing chain - almost maintenance free, umiingay kung loose/ streatched or faulty tensioneer
    Timing gear - maintenance free din pero bihira magpaparamdam kung kelan bibigay, delikado lalo na sa may edad na sasakyan o 2nd hand.

    parang 1.5k ata yung belt itself.

    nasira ung mga rocker arms tapos may mga nasirang valves kaya ganun kamahal inabot nung sa amin.

    sinubukan pa kasing i start nung naputulan.

    Naalala ko nagpalit ako nyan umabot lang ng 3k way back 2006 pa yun, 80k kms palang pinalitan ko na para sigurado, normal is 100k

    BTT: tama naman sinabi mo, nalito nga lang tayo.....hehehe...

    mahirap humataw kapag timing belt at di monitor kung kelan ang duetime to replace the belt....

    ang mahirap kasi,kapag naputulan ng belt kapag high RPM-high speed...naletse na....daming case sa KIA rion nyan...marupok yung timing belt na ikinabit...

    Example in my case: 4d56 turbo
    Camshaft Timing belt: P1,200 HTN mitsubishi belt
    Balance shaft timing belt: P800 HTN mitsubishi belt
    Oil seals : 4 pcs at approx P120 per piece Musashi
    Tensioner: Hindi ko pa napalitan pero dapat sinabay ko to dati. wala nako pera. hehe
