Out of budget na yung Honda Civic (base V MT starts 870k) this pricing strategy of Honda purely sucks (sorry Honda fanboys) just to preserve their prestige status??
Back to Topic:
Other cars you can check out is the Ford Focus Trend MT, Chevrolet Cruze LT MT, Nissan Sentra old body.
Good luck and better test drive to have things in your perspective
Thanks sa mga reply. actully naconsider na din namin yun cruze at focus, pero yun cruze kasi, as what i've read e mejo maraming flaws at issues tulad ng aircon. at baka mahirapan din sa maintenance dahil sa mahal ng parts. yun focus naman, luma na din kasi and a new focus might come late this year or maybe next year. so narrowed down to altis at civic ang choices kaya lang yun 1.8v ng civic maraming kulang na features na nasa altis pero mas mahal padin siya priced at 870k+. should i look on the new elantra 1.6? TIA!
Meh.
The Elantra is lacking in features ( - it was stripped down )
The Civic is old.
The Cruze is somewhat expensive to maintain.
The Focus will be soon replaced.
The Altis will be your best bet in this segment. Commendable technology. Refreshed looks. Cheap-ish maintenance. Great interior & luggage space.
*renzo thanks for the reply, if only M/Ts are offered on TOTL sub compacts, i might have too many cars to choose from. but for this budget and choice of tranny, i also think i could count on the altis 1.6G. kung may M/T lang ang 1.6V baka lalo kaming nahirapan. Haha.![]()
Corolla/Altis user here since 1997. For all intents and purposes, and for all the negative press circa 2009 and 2010 for Toyota, the Corolla will give you the best bang for the buck vehicle in overall acquisition cost, maintenace cost, comfort, and performance. It's an average, no frills car that takes you from point A to point B. Never had a problem on all Corollas/Altis I've used 1995 XE, 1997 GLi, 2007 1.6E MT and 2009 1.6G AT. Just follow the recommended PMS schedules, and you'll be one happy owner. Of course, don't expect it to be a vroom vroom machine, though it's definitely no slouch, especially with the new Dual VVTi engine![]()
that's the only thing i'm worried of. about it's performance/hatak. what if 3 passengers sa likod, 1 sa harap 1 driver. total of 5 persons, hindi naman ba hirap ang engine?
No prob. Like renzo, I've had as many as 7 people ride my Altis at one point, and I had no problem ascending the basement parking of RCBC Plaza... that's from basement level six! Note I had the older 3zz-fe engine that only had 109 hp (the new one, 1zr-fe, has 122 hp) and I've driven this with four passengers and a trunk fully loaded with bags and a cooler full of ice from Manila to Pagudpud with no issues. Though I generally stick to the speed limits prescribed on NLEX and SCTEX, I've reached 150 kph with the full load on the highways of ilocos Norte. The fuel efficiency is also great, as I got 14 km/L on that stretch.
When I said it isn't vroom vroom, I was referring to its tuning and handling. But power wise, it's more than adequate on daily driving, especially in the city.
The Altis can hack it even with a full load and luggage. Just make use of the gears properly. 6-speed mt is a definite plus.
At that price range, the civic is out and it the altis 1.6e that fits. Try checking out also the Nissan Grand Livina.
thankyou for all the replies guysnow the performance won't bother me now. actually my friend has 1.6G but it is the pre facelifted. compared to my 1.3E vios facelifted, the ride comfort of the altis was superb. road noise was very minimal to nothing. one thing that annoys him that much was about the rattles he was experiencing. pero siguro tolerable naman yun rattle issues, what do you think?
Yeahp, the rattles is a known problem already but its very minimal. There's a DIY fix that can be found in the 10th Gen Altis thread, if ever it appears in your unit ( though I doubt it would ) just ask around and I'm sure in no time the rattles will be long gone.
Goodluck !
thanks for the help renzo! how about the oil sludge issue, is this a major problem on all altis units, or an isolated case?
The sludge problem is prevalent in the 1.6L ZZ model Altis (2001 and up). It usually occurs on poorly maintained units. Avoiding it is pretty simple : change your oil & oil filter regularly every 5000kms.
If I may add, better have your PMS done by a reputable CASA branch. TQA is quite notorious on giving poor after-sales/maintenance support on their customers.

Nangyayari kaya ang sludge problem sa mga Altis cab and police units? These are among the most poorly maintained Altis's on the face of the earth.![]()
For the question of the TS in this thread, I'd suggest you get the Altis 1.6 6 speed M/T. If you're not a very fast driver naman, I believe the Altis should be enough for you since it already got a power increase to 122ps. And along with the 6 speed M/T, this should make for a very fuel efficient car and yet still with some measure of performance. This is if the Elantra 1.6DCVVT is too bare for you.
what if we use fully synthetic oil that are supposed to be changed every 10K kms? or is it advisable to use mineral/semi synthetic oil because of the high risk on having oil sludge if the oil isn't changed til 10K? thanks renzo for answering my noobish questions!thanks for helping!
