Only the Vios outsold the Fortuner and Montero in volume, considering they cost more... who said Filipinos are poor? Not suprised to see 4-3 Forts or Montys in the same road at a time...

I like the sales chart of the pick-up based SUVs. Parang peace/yo symbol, hehe.

    2014:

In the span of a decade, we see the ff. changes in Filipinos' buying patterns:

    * MPVs and AUVs used to be king. Before the rise of the ubiquitous pick-up based SUV, everyone was driving around in their Crosswinds, Adventures, and of course the hot new kid on the block, the Innova. The Fortuner was only recently introduced and hasn't yet become the staple big car of the country.

    * Compacts still had significant market share. This was still the time when the Altis, Mazda 3, and Civic lorded over the streets, and only the Vios and City were serious contenders from the subcompact segment. Today, with the subcompact and minicar segment offering great variety, lots of features, and cheaper operating costs at a lower purchase price, suddenly noone wants a compact sedan.

    * CUVs were prevalent. Fuel efficiency wasn't yet the top priority during the time (if you read reviews from this era, FC wasn't even a major discussion point). So even if the 2nd gen CR-V only gets 5 km/L, it was still selling like pandesal. If today you'd buy a Fortuner if you had over a million, back then it was the CR-V and X-Trail.

But then again, these PUV buyers have other options but the fact that they still choose Toyota speaks volumes about the brand's reliability, whether perceived or real.

Agreed. Mas pinipili ng buyers yung less headache. Saka availability at mas murang parts kung sakaling may masira.
