Been driving manual mostly. Mas maganda for me manual pa rin though there are times i wish for matics specially when traffic is at its worst. Hehehe both are good depends on your driving style and needs.

True! Well you can't have everything. But with the cvt's the FC is now at par or better. My brother has one and it is better than regular AT's just don't floor it. You'll see your gas needle go down also. Drive it with a light foot and with ease and it will make you smile till you get bored. Battle of the Transmissions: M/T vs. A/T

i used to have a 2003 cvt cedia. yes, that cvt felt great, but the fuel (in)efficiency was terrible. but i don't know if it was the engine, or the cvt, which was the cause..

Maybe the first generations of cvt's are at fault? Even the invecs I of mitsu failed. They were the first who brought it in here sir. I've heard that now most cvt's are using steel belts unlike the 1st gen.

Automatic transmissions have gone a long way. There are cars nowadays that have more fuel efficient matics than their manual offering. However most of these are luxury models with 8 speed matics, That the tech hasnt yet really trickled down to the mainstream cars is the reason we get stuck to the old knowledge that manuals always win the fuel efficiency battle.

Then there's the automated manual, or computer assisted manual, like the paddle-shifted modern sports cars. They shift faster than a stick. And they are practically not so "manual".

Oh and yes there is also the CVT which has also improved a lot over the years.

Time will come that stick-shift manual transmission will be found only on classic and specialist/niche cars. We need to move on to the next tech. Change is inevitable.

If at this day and age if you seriously think the difference in fuel economy between a modern automatic and a stick-shift is worth the hassle of driving manual, then you are underestimating the worth of your "pagod". And if you are an enthusiast, a really good car doesnt need a stick to give you sheer driving enjoyment, unless you are stuck in the nostalgia of the 20th century.

    Just my random ramblings.

And btw, the future of cars is autonomy. And we're getting there. Modern tech that pave the way, such as radar-based adaptive cruise control, wont be the "norm" without eventually getting rid of stickshift manual.

This thread started back in 2007. Back then M/T was king of practicality. But fast forward to today, it is near retirement. Engines today are way more high tech and fuel efficient compared to back then. So M/T can be retired without being sorely missed. Haha.

(And who knows, if future cars become all electric, then there will no longer be transmissions to talk about)

True sir, let's see when electric cars will become the norm. Must be really fun to drive one. No noise,no delays, fast acceleration.hope it doesn't explode Battle of the Transmissions: M/T vs. A/T
