(but the Escape is surprisingly good in this regard, too)... if you can get one for just ASX money, it's a steal.
My main gripe with the 1.6 is that it looks so pedestrian:

Rims are too small, the lack of accents and spoiler makes it look monotonous. Of course, these can all be remedied by aftermarket parts. However, sourcing rims for the Escape is difficult because it has a 5x108 pattern (everyone else has 5x114, Toyota/Subaru uses 5x100). Since the Escape is so rare, it's also hard to find a rear spoiler and roof rail from the usual shops like Clifford.

Then there's the problem of disposing the car in the future. You can opt to just keep the car forever, but parts availability will be difficult. Even casa maintenance will be hard because they don't usually carry inventory for low-volume cars, and waiting times can take months. Last time I checked with Mazford, they don't usually carry parts for new, low-volume cars aside from the usual filters.

Objecively, it's a good car at 1.1M, considering its size, power, and features. For armchair buyers, it's a steal. But imagining myself buying it, the issues I raised are enough to make me think twice.

my take: if you were gonna buy the escape (or were seriously considering it) even without the discounts, then go for it.

here are my givens for this decision

    1. Firm budget at 1.1M
    2. Ride height (at least higher than sedan)
    3. A/T
    4. CUV that's based at least on compact cars.
    5. No AUVs (crosswind)

    My finalists:

    1. Strada GLX V AT
    2. ASX (40k more expensive)
    3. Escape

I did consider the innova j (bahala na M/T) coz its the most sensible one. High resale, toyota reliability. But its not what I want.

Resale value -- I can play around with this since its a company paid car and di masyado malaki yung participation ko.
Maintenance -- I drive around less than 5km per year. So I don't see anything major happening at least in the next 5 years. Though Ford does force you to have the car serviced every 6 months regardless of mileage. I will have to budget for this.
Gas -- same as maintenance -- might not be much of an issue since I live near to the office.

So given all these, what would you consider? Perhaps there are other choices I haven't thought of.

    1. Strada is compact and maneuverable among pickups but feels a generation behind its competitors.
    2. ASX also feels old and cramped especially in headroom. Looks uninspiring.
    3. Escape looks bare from the outside but value for money with the amount of car you get. Parts will be an issue.
I feel though Ford is gonna release the 2017 Escape with the updated 1.5 Ecoboost (replacing the 1.6) hence the huge discounts. That's been launched in the US and our units are CBU from there, makes sense they're clearing inventory for a refresh.

Or wait for the Mazda CX-3 which has a rumored price of 1.1M ... A Honda Civic 1.8 perhaps?

I was actually eyeing as well the FORD ESCAPE because of the very huge discount they are offering, but I ended up getting the base model montero instead.

That is the reason why I ended up getting the Montero instead.

    Natuyo na.
I would rather buy a van like Hi Ace commuter or Montero van
kesa sa brand new ASX or Escape kahit pa ibaba sa 300k ang price.

Go for the Asx the GSR is being offered at 100k discount. It may not be the most spacious small Cuv compared to it's rivals the subaru xv and honda hr-v but at it's price it is worth the consideration. Under is hood is the 4b11 n/a which is the same engine found on the Lance EX , it is not just fast but it is also fun to drive.

^^^ The 4B11 would fare less in terms of performance against the 1.6L Ecoboost on the Escape SE. That 1.6L turbo produces more power and torque compared to most 2.5L NA engines except for the Mazda 2.5L SkyActiv.

For god's sake dont waste a million of your installment money to get ASX. mitsubishi has already revealed their new CUV, the size and pricing Ecopsort, who

Finally. mitsu acknowledge the challenge of ecopsort. Not hrv, not juke, or cx3 which are not in same segment

Check the indian car scene, all of them are excited about the new mitsubishi ecopsort counterpart

Oh wow! That's a bargain at P1.1M. I wonder why would anyone still get an Ecosport or a Juke if you can get a brand-new Escape for a little more cash. CUVs are perfect for those who wanted a higher car than a sedan but does not want the large and lumbering size of PPVs.

This new escape is a risk in Philippine roads because it's got turbo. Then water-cooled pa. Turbo's need to run freely para maganda operation not impeded in bumper traffic. As result it could get a turbo leak, and engine coolant getting in the cylinder, damaging the gasoline engine.

I wouldn't buy it even if it is priced at par with Ecosport. Delikado

Venzong and OB should start another thread and talk among themselves ...

Does the Ford Escape 1.6 have side airbags?

Look at this troll. What kind of kool-aid is he drinking?

Risk with turbo-powered vehicles? There are a bunch already in the local market, even long ago. Most new turbos are water-cooled already, even the Germans are using water-cooled turbos nowadays.

Let me count a few of the current crop of local vehicles and they don't even include those new CRDi-powered pickups, PPVs, and MPVs which got variable geometry turbos (VGT).

    BMW 3-series/5-series/7-series (various turbo options)
    Mini Cooper
    Audi A3/A4/A6/A7 (various turbo options)
Mercedes Benz A-class/C-Class/E-Class/S-Class (various turbo options)
Volvo (turbo options across its model line-up)
Porsche (turbo options across its model line-up)
    Chevrolet Trax 1.4L turbo
    Ford Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost
    Ford Focus 1.5L Ecoboost
Ford Escape 1.6L and 2.0L Ecoboost
Ford Explorer 2.3L and 3.5L Ecoboost
    Ford Expedition 3.5L Ecoboost
    Ford Mustang 2.3L Ecoboost
    Honda Civic 1.5L turbo
    Hyundai Veloster 1.6L turbo
    Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0L turbo
Mazda CX9 2.5L turbo (upcoming model)
    Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
    Mitsubishi Lancer Ralli-Art
    Subaru Levorg 1.6L turbo
    Subaru Forester XT 2.0L turbo
    Subaru WRX and WRX STi
VW Golf 1.4L and Golf GTi 2.0L turbo
    VW Jetta 1.4L turbo
    VW Bettle 1.4L turbo
    VW Passat 2.0L turbo

Go tell people who have them that all the cars above are RISKS in local roads as they are powered by turbo petrol engines.

The Escape comes with 6 airbags - driver/passenger, front curtain, rear curtain. The Forester, CX5, and Escape comes standard with 6 airbags on its model line-up. Most other local CUVs come with driver/passenger airbags only.
