Guy from our Manila office once told me... Don't buy a used car that's 2010 and older...

    Ondoy happened 2009!

Question is... Do you encounter floods frequently? Does your daily route include very bad roads? When you go out of town, do you pass through anything other than well-paved cement or asphalt? If your answer is no on all three counts, then I suppose the Jazz is for you. While it is a subcompact hatch, it is also a Honda, which should give you some points for respect, as long as you keep it stock. [emoji23] I have a family friend who is a successful young entrepreneur who runs quite a few businesses throughout the country. He still drives his decade-old 1st gen Yaris, apparently with no plans to retire it yet anytime soon.

Concerning flooded units... Unfortunately Ondoy was not the last major flooding disaster that befell our country, with many more following through the years so post 2009 cars are still not automatically in the clear. Always bring a trusted mechanic when visiting a prospect. Look for rust and mud in hard to reach places, traces of condensation under lamp lenses, missing owner's manual or with traces of having been wet, damp smell in the cabin, signs of collision like "masilya", crumpled metal parts and missing stickers in the engine bay...
