*Azryl - do you have other choices? I mean you have a budget of 650k so you might as well make the most out of it. Have you checked for an Altis or Civic or Sylphy? The Jazz is big for a small car but a compact car is better built than a subcompact car. A Civic is better overall than a City/Jazz, the same way an Altis is better than a Vios/Yaris.

Agree with GTi regarding durability of Jap vs Kor on parts especially suspension undertrimmings.
While the SF is handsome, spacious, comfortable, and rapid; you have to look very hard to find one in very good condition.
I was in the in market for one not so long ago. And I know that most owners who have good condition units prefer not to sell them because of the lower resale value compared to other brands, and of course how good of a vehicle it is.

The Jazz is car that is hard to hate.
In the end, it will boil down to your preference and need.

Just remember that an older/bigger vehicle will be more expensive to maintain(insurance/fuel/parts).
    Happy hunting!

I will normally vote for the newer car...

You're choosing between a 2 year old Jazz and a 10 year old SUV...

BUT, the SUV has a ladder frame (maybe it's my age, but based on experience, I prefer vehicles with a ladder frame)

So, for casa maintained car, go with the Jazz... You can test drive Jazz vs SUV and matutuwa ka sa Jazz

If you can do small repairs, you can consider the 10 year old SUV

*650K, you might want to consider the Sylphy.

IMHO the SUV offers more bang for the buck. Consider that the Jazz costs around 800-900k when new, while a mid or top variant SUV costs around twice as much. Then there is also fuel cost. Diesel is around P12/L cheaper than the cheapest unleaded gasoline. Rough calculations indicate that fuel cost of a diesel engine consuming 8km/L (assuming P31/L) in city driving is the same as a gasoline engine consuming 11km/L (assuming P43/L), and that's the fuel consumption of a typical 1.3L subcompact. Then of course we have the usual high ground clearance, sturdier underpinnings and bigger seating capacity. More respectable road presence is also a plus, something to consider if you happen to be someone who meets and/or ferries business clients/potential clients regularly. Cons would be higher maintenance cost due to larger volume of lubricants needed and expensive tire sizes.

In the end, the deciding factor would be which car would make you happier.

hi sir *egan101 ive considered the civic and altis as 3rd and 4th choice. i really fell in love with a hatch ^^v

sir *BlancNoir i have limited knowledge on the XV, its performance and some other matter same as true with the sylphy.

*hypnos sir if thats the case it would be difficult to find that good gem on SF owners. Noted also on your last statement.

*ice15 thank you sir. i have a hard time looking for an honest seller who would open up issues of their car before purchase.

*StockEngine sir thank you also for the input.

*ax30g sir its hard to find a sylphy in my location and its nearby provinces. im scared to buy a unit that came from NCR due to flooding and some hidden issues . im now reading threads in this forum on things to check and consider when buying a second hand car.

*GTi thank you sir for the figurative comparison.

Thank you tsikoteers for the inputs. this really is a one stop shop forum and im filling up my cup on different knowledge.

*Azryl - I drive a hatchback also and I love my Fiesta. We used to have a previous gen Jazz. The Fiesta is smaller inside than the Jazz but it offers a more responsive and quicker drive.

The Subaru XV is a small crossover with standard AWD. It is bigger than the Jazz and with a higher ground clearance. Think of it as a hatchback with a raised suspension and with light offroad capability. Performance is decent with its 2.0L boxer engine, punchier on low rpms compared to 1.5L engine of the Jazz.

The Sylphy is a fairly new platform in the country, released mid 2014. It offers a good package for a compact car but it has a hard time competing in sales against the Altis and Civic.
