For me... the fun in driving a Forester is muted when you're driving the base model. It really needs the extra power of the turbo or at least a manual transmission mated to the base engine to really feel alive.
The dual-range 5-speed manual transmission (then it becomes like 10-speed) would be better to manage its power in the base version. As far as automatic goes, a CVT such as the one used in the Legacy, would be a huge imrpovement over the current outdaded 4-speed one...
