reminds me of the Revo vs (1st Gen) Innova

It probably reminded toyota HQ of the same thing except how they fumbled the Innova in taiwan by launching it with the 2.7 gas instead of the 2.0 or a Diesel/Auto option in South Africa. Ironically the Fuzion that flopped here for the same reason is still sold in taiwan now with a 1.5t/ZF 8-Speed AT.

Honestly, the Revo had a terrible gas engine (1.8L) - pero it was the only variant with an Automatic
2.4L Diesel was ok - pero it was an old school diesel engine (no AT variant - which is strange since you can buy a surplus AT transmission that an under the tree mechanic can install for you)

You can easily see that a majority of tito car buyers was not happy with the (Innova) change as the Adventure and Crosswind still sold well even if both platforms are very very old.

One factor is it's only captain seats for the 2nd row ... another could be the gasoline engine ...

Another way to put it is it's "too first world".

The Innova is being used, by and large, in commercial fleets (company vehicles, taxis, etc.) The J and XE variants are the bang-for-buck darlings right now, while the V and G remains mostly for private use, save for some overlap in between.

To me at least, the main turn-offs of the Zenix is its monocoque design, FWD, gas-only engine, and CVT. Sure, it's an upgrade of sorts in a lot of things but I feel that it's still overall a downgrade on at least a few of the important stuff.

Agreed on the points raised. People buying an Innova do so because it's a workhorse.

All of the tech in the Zenix is nice, but it's clearly aimed at a different market.. one that overlaps with sedans, crossovers, and cushier SUVs.

For a self-drive vehicle I certainly will not choose a Zenix
