Although Gran Turismo is the best car simulator game, not all the vehicles have accurate performance. Also, if you raced against another person, there might be a slight boost for trailing cars in the game settings. Turn that off.

I'm pretty sure actual tests will tell a different story.

True. 2.0 consumes around 6-8 kms/liter. I think it's like a CRV engine mounted on a sedan. Not sure though.

There's really an obvious difference on CVT on the way the car shifts, (you actually don't feel the car shifting on CVT).

Though I believe you can't go wrong with either car, I like the feel of the Altis more than the Civic. Both are solid brands, with similar specs, hence choice would/should ultimately boil down to which car you believe has a better feel when driving.

Wow... 6-8? That's about as bad as the CRV 2.0 AT! Most of us FCP members with the Lynx RS get between 8-9 in traffic. Worst I've gotten is 6, but that was in a three hour trip/traffic jam into and out of Tutuban during the weekend. The Achilles heel of the RS is the highway. 11 is the best I've gotten because fifth gear is very very short.

Ibang klase talaga ang AT. Honda really should offer the K20 with a good manual instead, if they can't put a CVT on it yet.

As for the Gran Turismo comparison, it's really hard to launch an FF car in GT4 properly, but in real life, word is the CVT is smooth and efficient enough to make it almost as fast or faster than the manual. IMHO, the next gen 1.8 Civics ought to get the CVT, it's really an amazing transmission.

As for driving feel, I find both cars to be decent and very liveable cars to ride in, but neither can compare with the driving feel of the Lynx or the Mazda3/Focus. I'm hoping they get the driving feel back with the next Civic, though, as it's coming out in time for me to seriously consider purchasing it over a City.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Honestly, I've had some regrets after purchasing the 2.0 Civic. The 1.5 City is more fun to drive than its big brother yet consumes a lot less fuel. The thing is, the 1.5 looks more like a toy than a car. But after a year, I always find myself making the city my everyday car, with an impressive 15-17 kms/l city traffic consumption.

The 2.0 is really a guzzler. It has much more comgortable ride as compared to a city, being a civic, but the costs to drive is a hefty price to pay.

My wife's Altis is a nice mariage of fuel economy (9-10 kms/l city driving) and comfort.

Either civic or altis will be a nice choice when choosing a compact car.

Could a 6th gear have helped?

It seems that Toyota ATs are a bit better than Honda's, but in MT, it's a different story. Yeah, the 2.0 Civic should have been manual instead, but I guess they made it more of a comfortable cruiser than an SiR successor. It's more of a gap filler between the 1.7 Civic and the Accord.

As for the new Civic, I read that the 1.8 versions will get manual and automatic, both 5-speeds, while the hybrid should have a CVT.

Yeah, the Mazda/Ford alliance has been coming up with great chassis to fit in their cars. Let's also hope the new Civic is back on its feet, and please, sell it now!

11km/L for the Lynx RS in highway driving? wow.. that's the same figure I got over the past weekend on my 626 going to Baguio. Same engine, but mine is a decade old (and I was hauling 5 people the whole way).

Is the fabled 26km/L highway test of the DoE for the Altis E achievable in practice? all I know is, that was roundtrip Fort - Batangas via SLEX/StarToll and back. Baka naman windows shut, no A/C, and no braking yun (pure engine brake and coasting). Still, an AMAZING mileage figure, up there with the Hyundai Matrix CRDi.

26 km/l is far from attainable in the real world. By the way, is that M/T or A/T?

Oh that one. Poch and Epi maintained speeds no more than 40 km/h. They also placed the car in neutral during downhill drives. Possibly they sometimes turned off the engine during traffic as well.
