Tanong tanong muna sa mga kamag-anak at kabigan. Baka may referral sila.

Then Facebook Marketplace. Wala na silbi sa akin ang olx when it comes to buying stuff.

Well, those already mentioned are the most current methods of trading pre-owned cars nowadays.

In an ideal situation however, it would be best to buy a 2nd hand car from a friend, or someone you know. Yun bang tipong mahihiya naman if may toyo pala yung binenta kasi magkikita at magkikita pa rin kayo (that is, if matino siyang tao).

Preferably someone na kasing alaga sa sasakyan tulad ng karamihan ng mga forum members dito, and the vehicle being sold is not a daily driver but an extra car just taking up space in the garage.

Unfortunately, we we don't live in an ideal world, and such circumstances are rare
After driving old cars for years though (because our folks believed we had to learn how hard it was to make money), those are the only conditions I'd ever consider buying a 2nd hand car.

My other 2 cents on the matter?

    • I'd rather see the vehicle being sold "as is", rather than "pimped up" so they can sell it for a higher price, and conceal defects (yun bang retoke na pambenta lang tapos lalabas na lahat ng bulok a few months down the road)
    • If the owner was female or nakalagay sa ad "lady driven"? - subtract 30% outright na from market value. I'm not being s*xist, but in my experience, many lady drivers have poor maintenance routines (basta tumatakbo lang, walang pakialam). And a lot of lady drivers can be just as reckless and an a-h*le as as most other drivers dito sa `Pinas.

    Again, just my 2 cents...

Don't see why not. If you don't mind the price markup. Good thing about used car lots is that you can ask them to run all the documents for you.

Why not search on google for second-hand car? I hope you'll get some good sources there. Thank you!

First option is asked some friends or kamag anak or anyone within your area kung may nagbebenta.

Next option - Check online Market Place like FB, Olx, Philkotse, Autodeal. Specifically target those owner/seller. Make a list of all the vehicle you want to check and sched a visit to check the vehicle.

3rd Option is 2nd hand Car lots. Visits na rin.

While doing it, get the prevailing Market price of the particular unit you prefer to buy so you can compare and haggle

Last is pag may napili ka na, don't close the deal outright, hanap ka ng trusted mechanic and bring him with you to check the vehicle condition. If everything is good then you can proceed and close the deal. Before I forget, test drive syempre..Pag ayaw magpa test drive, walk away. Ittakes alot of patient talaga pag 2nd hand buyer ka.. Good luck

Sa Marketplace mas madali since nakikita mo agad kung sino yung seller.

First thing to check is kung sa buy and sell ba nanggaling yung kotse. Makikita mo yung recent posts nung seller pag pinindot mo yung profile picture nya. Kung madami siyang binibentang kotse it means hindi personally used yung unit so try to avoid that.

Another note is yung tinatakpan yung plate number ng kotse. Kadalasan kasi sa ganyan may penalties kaya ayaw ipakita yung plate kaya try to ask the seller kung ano yung plate number para na rin ma check mo sa lto kung may alarm (you can text sa lto yung plate number to see if its not alarmed)

I recently bought a 2nd hand car so let me share you my experience.

Facebook Marketplace has tons of cars available. Sorting or filtering is quite a problem though. There are a lot of gems (fairly new, low mileage) out there but unfortunately most of them are quite a distance from my house. It is a bit frustrating.

Carousell has a lot too. Better to filter and sort but same frustration with the distance of where the car is available for inspection.

Carmudi, Philkotse, Autodeal are mostly filled by 2nd hand car dealers. Mostly are repossessed cars which they buy from banks at a discounted price (they purchase by volume). Again, there are some gems there but the prices are very high.

I went to 2nd hand car dealers near my residence but they mostly sell high end cars (Fortuners, Land Cruisers, FJ, and even exotic cars), way above my price ranges. Fortunately, there was one dealer who had the car model I had in mind but was pretty expensive. Saw it, sat on it, smells like new. Low mileage. Very clean. Drove it and it was ok. I took a chance and made an offer removing nearly 100k on the price tag. They agreed.

One advantage of dealing with car dealers is that they are willing to process the papers for the transfer, hence you can get a clean CR with your name, even if the car has an ugly document history.

Bought my car (Civic 2.0s 2009 model) through FB marketplace. Car was in good condition, albeit the mileage (110k, which is normal). Just have to nitpicky on what to check in the post. Had the engine and transmission checked by a mechanic.

Also, I am more wary of low mileage vehicles than those with high ones. Andali na palitan ng odo ngayon hehe. Hindi nako maniniwala kapag more than 10 yr old na yung tsikot, then the odo just reads 30-70k, unless 2nd or 3rd car ng may-ari.

That's the advantage of dealing directly with the owner and visiting his garage....

You could be pleasantly surprised with what precious dig you discover...

We got our 07 Santa Fe in 2017 with 74k kms on the clock. The leather was, for the most part, in great condition save for the edge of the driver seat and a small part at the upper rear portion of the otherwise pristine steering wheel. That, for me, indicated that the car wasn't abused and that it still had its original upholstery.
