Resurrecting this thread. I think it's safe now. the multiple user name guy is gone.

Just browsing through car comparisons. And even though comparing 2 used cars on what to buy. All the replies have resale value. (get this because it have better resale value, etc etc).

But if your buying 2nd hand cars. Does resale value really that important?

I rarely get new cars. Usually 5 years old and above na. Resale value is not really that important anymore. Sometimes, you just go and buy those brands with low resale values (e.g. Nissan) because it is already to your advantage. Newer units at lower prices. A 2002 Patrol with a/t and leather is priced similary to a 1997 Land Cruiser m/t with cloth seats.

There are more factors to consider when buying a used car like aftermarket support, serviceability, vehicle history, etc. More important stuff than resale.

these are the times na lalo pa masyado dadami mga Used Cars like the ones in the States. yun tipo may TV ads pa per state or city. kasi may resale value nga hirap pa din ibenta sa dami ng options ngaun.

oo nga tapos yun tipong gusto mo mag-coast to coast driving, kukuha ka ng tig 500 dollars na old corolla hehehe, then sell the car on the middle states less than 100-200, and get another 500 dollar jap compact sedan. pagdating mo sa destination, benta mo ulet less than 100-200 dollars.

mas mura pa sa plane fare hehehe. $200-$400 lang all-in-all and you get to enjoy the entire United States

Yung mga Montero guys kasi sa U.S. they can afford two Monteros, one for daily driving, the other as a project/hobby car. Dito sa atin you still have to be pretty rich to have a project car to play around with. Even Nissan AD Resorts are still pushing Php200k in the used car market.

yung b13?

I'd choose a nissan over a toyota or a honda as long as it's well kept by the owner. and by the way, cars with low resale values are often 'badged' as such because the first models they introduced were not appealing to the public - perhaps due to design deficiencies that make these models 'lemons'. newer models from the same brands have, of course been through a total redesign, improving the overall build quality and performance of the model line-up.

Take the case of nissan's b12 sentra (box-type) which have been replaced by a reliable b13 (aka series 2), the series 3 and so on. Not to mention the korean carmakers whose initial models (such as hyundai's excel) and the kia pride were regarded as cars with the lowest resale value.

Things should change now as the carmakers have introduced 'breakthrough' models such as hyundai's santa fe and starex, and of course the innovative crdi engines for the accent and getz. The mazda3 certainly is a 'breakthrough' model from the 323 line-up, setting it even generations apart from its competitors - and these mostly are results of being globally competitive. Baka malaman nalang natin two to three years from now na Chery na ang most preferred brand like what Honda did sa US market ten years ago. History does repeat itself.

Then again, resale value is more of a mentality, and this mentality or as some refer to as 'market emotion', is what drives people to set the resale value of an automobile.

For me, what's important : Gusto mo ba talaga ang bibilhin mong kotse?
Do you own and drive a car with a high resale value pero di mo naman feel?
There is something in a car, whatever the brand, na pagdrive mo ay comfortable ka, nasisiyahan ka, nasusunod mo ang kinahiligan mo. As the famous automabile brand says " Function before form".
Also take note of your budget, ito ang talagang basehan ng pagpili, BUDGET MO.

i would like to run my starex a million miles...or 'til it disintegrates. so keeping it for 20 or 30 years flushes the resale value down the drain. who cares?

    I don't care. I Love my car.
    Hi uwak18!
I ceratinly share the same sentiments w/ you. Like what you said sa office ninyo you're being be-littled kasi Kia ang auto mo. Well ako naman I could use my KIA as a gauge for knowing who your " Real " friends are. Biro mo one time, may friend akong sasabay sa akin pauwi. Dahil sa auto ko was a Kia na wala daw Pride eh ganun nalang ako tinrato...at least my KIA was a way of getting to know who my Real friends were.
Sorry to say but most people look at the brand & use it to gauge their status. It shouldn't be that way. It depends on how you drive your car & how you maintain it. Kung tutuusin maganda ang KIA pride esp if maintained properly. Sa amin 7 years na ang Kia Pride & still in good condition. I was able to ask the resale value ng Kia ko ( Kia Pride GTX 2000 model ) puwede pang mabenta ng P100k! Siguro kung mabibihisan pa ng konti baka puwede pa til P110k..not bad diba? Pero my family is keeping the KIA until it rots. The car had given us a lot of blessings already.
I cannot blame other people if they're skeptical about the Kia brand. Korean cars were not much of say before. Kahit ako, Kia user, is also " in doubt " at times esp kung harap harapan ka ng inaasar bcoz of your car. Nagkaron kasi ng KIA Stigma noon & sad to say it still stays in the minds of others. Pero ngayon, KIA Motors is trying all it's best to show that they have a lot to say when it comes to Hi- technology. Ganda talaga!
Basta ako my advise to you, just take care of your KIA & maintain it properly.

At least ikaw may Kia, so be PROUD!

OT- wow tindi ng ex-friend mo hehehe. wala naman problem sa kia. as long as everything is maintained properly.

resale value? dependes on how deep your pocket is may mga family kasi, lalo yung mga may extra money, na kayang mag palit every 4years. tulad dito sa amin (isabela) long drives kasi lahat. so yung 4 years e sigurado nasa 100t kilometers na tinakbo. so para iwas sa mechanical problems. sell the old. buy new. pero for the kind of car brand and resale value? naku nasa personal preference na yan ng buyer if he/she will sell the car or hold on to it till its useful (car) life.
