the car does not have your name on it. you can not legally sell it. But if it will be used for scrap....
go to the LTO and ask them what you have to do, and avoid the "sabi-sabi" movement..

^^ LTO will instruct you to get 1st a clearance from TMG pasig or near your place before they will process your request. Be there in TMG pasig as early in the morning. mahabang pila dun ala MRT. dala ka rin ng mash ala deserto dun pag mahangin nung pumunta ako 2 yrs ago

When buying a 2nd hand car, are you required to have it transferred to your name even though you don't have plan to sell it in the future?

Or better to have an open deed of sale for case like this, for future flexibility?

Open deed of sale ba means buyer detail is blank as well as the date of transaction?

    Thanks.

If I were your seller, I would require you to register the sale with LTO so that in their record, I'd no longer be the registered owner. That way, if the car is involved in an accident or crime, the police wouldn't be looking for me but for you.

If I were to buy the car that you bought from a third party who still stands as the registered owner, I'd require you to first register the sale from the third party to you. I wouldn't want to be confronted with the situation where I may encounter a problem with registering the sale from you to me all because there's a problem with the first sale. So if I were you and so I would have easy flowing sale transaction, I'd register the sale now.

MP, one quick question. is there really a procedure in the LTO about this sale registration that you mentioned? you know, i bought and sold pre-owned cars before but I have never come across this process. thank you.

Sale registration = Transfer of Ownership.

Re: Transfer of Ownership. IMHO, it is not a question of requirement or advantage but of what's the right thing to do.

Kotse mo na yan so bakit nakapangalan pa sa ibang tao? If magka-insidente ang kotse mo, maha-hassle pa ang original owner pag nagkataon.

If brand new car ang binili mo, ipapangalan mo ba sa ibang tao?

The longer you delay transferring to your name, mahihirapan ka ipa-transfer dahil laging valid ID ang hinihingi ng LTO. What if nag-expire na ang ID sa xerox copy ng previous owner?

Isabay sa renewal ng registration ang pag-transfer para additional cost at isang processing na lang:

PNP clearance = about P450-P550* (Pa-confirm na lang)
Transfer of MV ownership = P150
Change venue = P100 (when the registering district office is different from the district office that issued the CR/OR)

+1 here. may mga iilang motorist ginagawang extra or source of income ang pagbili ng kotse na ayaw nila i-transfer sa pangalan nila sa CR. buy and sell ito. mas madaling ibenta ang car sa prospect buyer kapag iilan lamang ang ownership stated sa CR.
