Now this is just me, but giving a "newly minted" driver a brand new car... sayang naman.

    Just wanted to ask...

    Regarding test drives:
    1) Is it common to ask them to test drive a car or will this annoy them? Is it rude to test drive the car and not buy it immediately after?

    2) When test driving, who decides the path to take?

    3) How long are you usually allowed to test drive the car?

    4) Are test drives free of charge?

    5) Can I have me and someone else be in the car together with the sales agent/dealer person? Or is it just one person and the dealer representative?

    1. The sales staff will normally offer you to test drive the car (unless they don't have test drive units).

    2. When I did a test drive, they suggested a route.

    3. I did one loop for each car I test drove.

    4. Yes.

    5. Yes. I had 2 people with me. The sales staff and a security guard went with us.

My wife first learned to drive with an automatic. This allowed her to learn the basics - road rules, accelerating, braking, looking at the mirrors, merging, overtaking, parking.

All of these you can learn without a manual transmission. By the time she had to learn to drive with a manual, her learning curve was much quicker because she didn't have to be overloaded with skills anymore - she just had to add the clutch timing and shifting on top of the other things she could already do.

I find it outdated to "have to" learn with a manual first. Anyone with enough money to buy a car can buy an automatic and in this day and age you don't need to drive a manual at all.

Even if you learn how to drive with a manual, but then drive an automatic exclusively for several years, you probably won't be good enough to drive a manual when forced to. And again, in this day and age, you can survive very well without driving a manual.

Save for PUV drivers - I think manuals are a novelty, for those people who enjoy driving them (like me). For 95% of the driving population, I'm sure they'd prefer driving an automatic in a congested urban context.

it all boils down to personal preference.
but to some unfortunates, it's "drive what's in the garage, or take the LRT".

For cases like these, edi learn to drive an MT when you need to.

If you know you'll be driving an AT and have no future plans to drive an MT, why learn MT at that point? You can just learn it when you actually need to. Makakalimutan mo lang yun if you learn it and not use it.

Present! I learned to drive an MT those years na katuwaan with the barkada, tinuruan nila ako natuto pasundot sundot naka drive in short hindi ko nakasanayan.

Now honestly hindi na ako marunong, all those macho / rezing rezing guys can anything they want pero never ako naging fan or never ako bibili ng MT vehicle.

Ano ba MT na 1M or below na mabilis? Halos lahat yan kaya sabayan ng mga AT versions nila.

Gusto ko rin ng weekend MT car but it has to be quicker/faster than my daily ride.

Kahit WRX MT, oks na ako. Puwede rin Civic Type R, para pares kami ni EQ.

The quicker one is an FXT while the slower one is an ASX.

Kung AT yung bilhin mo, then go learn to drive it. No point learning to drive an MT car if you’re not going to be owning one.
