well it's one thing to spend for enhancements like mr happy_gilmore, but in general kung 2nd hand vehicle you'll be pressed to spend for broken-down parts.
i think a figure of 30k a year for just maintenance (replacing broken parts, etc.) is a good all-round figure.

Ako, dami rin pinaayos sa nabili kong 2nd hand. Replaced a lot of parts (alternator, battery, one tire, HU, alarm, fog lamps, etc.), tapos payment pa sa checkup at iba pang repairs. Di pa kasama dun mga legal documents na kelangan kapag change of ownership. Still have other things to repair pero pinag-iipunan muna. However, the car is way much better than the first time I got it.

Yung previous owner kase walang service records. Kaya gusto ko alam ko kung kelan napalitan lahat ng dapat palitan for preventive maintenance purposes, not to mention replacing those parts na palitin na talaga. Kaya laki na ng nagagastos ko. I even maintain a spreadsheet with all my expenses and kung saan/kelan ako nagpagawa.
Right now I think napalitan ko na lahat ng dapat. Hopefully ma-normalize na ung gastos ko going forward.

I've spent around 50k siguro since getting the car last July. This includes maintenance cost and repairs lang, wala naman ako dinagdag na pampaganda kasi ok na sya. The car is holding up well except for the fog lights. The angel eyes used to be a major pain in the ass. Palit wheel bearings, clutch master cylinder, compressor, oil seals, hose, among others.

I got my 1997 Cefiro last year and am very happy with it. Other than to have the stereo replaced, no major repairs needed. Though I am scheduled to have the ff. replaced soon:
- shock absorber boot (casa P1,200; Japan replacement P450)
- stabilizer bushings (casa P340)
- stabilizer links (casa P2,200; OEM daw P900)
- rear brakes (casa P3500, Bendix replacement P1,100)
If you add this to the price of the car, it is still 85% cheaper than getting a new one.
I also bought a 2nd hand Starex 2 years ago, and so far had the ff. replaced: front shock absorbers, stabilizer links, tie-rods, brakes. All-in-all, it was still over 60% cheaper than a new one. After that, have not needed to change anything else for the last 9 months. Am also happy with it, and my family refuses to part with it.
I think key here is the selection of the car. My Cefiro ran 40k and the Starex only ran 23k kms. when I bought them. I usually go window-shopping for 3 months, until I find the car that I was confident was well cared for. Once I spot it, I didn't mind buying them for a premium.
just did a quick search... BYD e6 - Wikipedia Yung 1st Gen BYD e6 pala was released in 2009...
