i think main advantage of 4-channel over 2-channel amps is PRICE. Mas mababa ang presyo ng 4-channel amps as they share a common power supply.

so why choose 4 channels? because some people run their system in active mode (using active crossovers). By doing this, they would need to power their speaker individually (tweeters / mids).

advantage of going active = more possibility to tweak your sound system by being able to control the cutoff and slope ng tweeters and mids.

    my 2 cents

The advantage of 4 channel amp over 2channel is having single amp to power both your front speaker and sub. 2 Channel is used normally to power the front (usually sep) and another mono amp for the sub. Looking at these two set-up, the 4channel is more cost effective.

    -sil-

hindi po malakas kumain ng kuryente yung mga amps na yun. pero pag ang whole system mo umabot ng 1000 watts.. better put some capacitors and much better a higher alternator. para hindi ka bitin sa power. dami pa dyan sa kac. pero kung gusto nyo kasi 1 amp system. kunin nyo yung dd c4 (Digital Designs c4 amp) 4 chaneel amp. specs:
    2 x 50 + 2 x 100 into 4 Ohms, measured at 12.0 volts.
    2 x 70 + 2 x 140 into 4 Ohms, measured at 13.8 volts.
    2 x 100 + 2 x 210 into 2 Ohms, measured at 13.8 volts.
    1 x 200 + 1 x 420 bridged mono into 4 Ohms, measured at 13.8 volts.

*50 x 2 to power front speakers, 420 mono to drive rear sub(s).

    SIMPLE ANSWER:
if its 2 channels, it can drive 1 set of speakers
if its 4 channels it can drive 2 sets of speakers
if its 5 channels it can drive 2 sets of speakers plus a subwoofer
    etc

    NOT SO SIMPLE ANSWER
-It can drive an infinite number of speakers. It all depends on how you wire them such that the load/impedance being seen by the amplifier is within the amps limit
