As far as I know, all aftermarket head units nowadays comes with mp3/iPod functionality. If we are to use industry-leader Pioneer as reference, even their most affordable head unit (the DEH-X1 series) at Php5,000 has the said functionality. Personally, I'd pick any head unit brand that's fairly well known: Sony, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, etc. for the purchase.
For reputable shops, to be honest, any in Banawe would do. The installation process is quite easy so even those barkers on the street actually knows how to install one. However, I would recommend you stick to a shop for peace of mindFor the shop recommendations, just pick any. They don't really differ that far in price and this is a given seeing how the shops in Banawe are lined up one after the other (making comparisons quite easy so the area is price-sensitive).
If you'll be around "old Banawe", you're looking at the likes of Maspro, Perfect Circle, and Ryan Audio. In "new" Banawe, you're looking at C3, TeamCars, JetCar, etc. Of course, famous budget-friendly Araneta Car Accessories also deserves a mention although they're at Araneta Avenue going to Sta. Mesa.
Yup. Don't buy into these "pairing" stuff that shops sell to you. Anything lower than Php10,000 usually sound the same because they're limited by their budget. You can't just try to throw in diamond tweeters and price them at Php5k now can we?![]()
Thanks jhnkvn! Would prices be cheaper if I opt to go to Araneta Car Accessories instead of Banawe? Among the brands that you've mentioned, which is best and which brand would be cheapest?
Haha! Not really looking for high-end stuff here, just a simple bang for the buck head unit. Sorry for the noob question, but are the parallel import units original? It's just that they're being sold in the grey market?
Can someone tell me what the differences are between the pioneer 8850bt vs the 8750bt? What exactly has changed? New features? Resolution? Speed? Can it play mkv? Support for hard disk?

Yes they're still original. But since they're grey market imports, they don't enjoy local warranty services.
I usually just simplify it as "old vs new" tbh. Technical goodies include that the newer model does not have MirrorLink since it was slow as a sloth. But it has a better screen due to being OLED I heard. Also heard that it's a semi-downgrade due to a lower DAC sampling rate but I don't think those will factor in to the decision of your everyday listener. For one, I still listen to 320kbps MP3 files. Firmware for the newer model is better too as the 8750BT tend to simply shut down mysteriously due to a bad firmware.
Thanks! I might (once again) get an android china unit. Not so much of an audiophile. Though I do appreciate good sound (bought a devialet for the home).

Its door to door but customs will always charge taxes. Best is NOT to undervalue it. DHL just informed me that the tax is 1,720 pesos. Not bad for a almost $400 item.
I've done this before. Aliexpress (which is owned by alibaba.com) is very safe with 100% money back guarantee. This is the king of ecommerce.

When the items clear customs that is when the amount is known. When you're tracking your parcel in DHL you can specify sms and email alerts when certain milestones are reached. In my case I ticked customs clearance and final delivery. I got the alert called up their hotline and got the exact amount. I readied it for their courier. Received my item yesterday (it looks fantastic and I might get another one) and will have it installed in the weekend.
