The most enjoyable quality of going for a more expensive head unit would probably be the bigger screen estate. SQ-wise, the elephant in the room is probably the additional pre-out voltage (not too sure if this applies to the current crop nowadays) and more pre-outs.
The 2850 is excellent as a basic head unit and ticks all the boxes most people need. Though I did heard through Banawe dealers that it has a rather medium rate of warranty issues. Not too sure if that's accurate or simply a marketing ploy to get me to buy the 5850. Possibly the latter really.
Re: FLAC
Uhh, not too sure if you can throw FLAC sa CD. USB possibly. CD.... not too sure about that.
For the record, I just use 320kbps .mp3 files as much as possible for space considerations. Though I do admit I have a bit of ALAC (FLAC equivalent) for my more "SQ" oriented tracks. I play mainly through an iPod AUX digital.
