I have a Snail shell. It produces really really low booms. The thing about the snail shell, is that it's HUGE.. 33x13.5x18 over 3cubic feet. but it produces great boom. If you go ported, you can get a customized round ported or slot port for the price of a snail shell.
If you go 2x12 Targas...you can say goodby to trunk space hehe. Each sub requires 2.5cubic feet at least!..for ported. So 2 would be at least 5cubic feet. But if you do go 2 12" Targas, you'd be spending most of your money on a good amp to power both..though a V12 1507 or Thunder Audio 4100 will do..if you're on an SPL budget like me hehehe. Then if you rear fire it...you're going to need sound deadening since you're going to get heavy trunk rattle which is very disturbing. I suggest try auditioning 1x12 Targa in a snail or ported. 1 12" Targa is pretty good na, and will make you grin.
Here's a pic of my trunk showing the gap between the box itself and the rear.
And here's my box front firing..I do front since it minimizes my trunk rattle by 90%. As you can see, my trunk space is already gone with 3+cuft occupies

Kriskros is right.
Building a subwoofers system there is a PROS & CONS approach.
PROS: Two 12" subs more bass output.
CONS: limited space, big heavy box, more gas in your car for your heavy loads. Not to mention if your charging system could handle additional with the needed current and voltage to operate properly.
Try to envision what kind of system is enough for you to be required to put the pieces in your system. DONT BITE MORE THAN YOU COULD CHEW. Money wise is a must unless, total amount is not an option.
DYNAMAT is the best deadening for your car to reinforces your trunk to help reduces noise and rattles and dont forget also to use HushMat sealing caulk and tape to dampen noise in corners and hard to-reach areas. They dont come cheap so you better prepared to put a hole in your pocket.

I'm not really sure how much deadening would cost. But, for the trunk lid, I'd guess 2k+. And it would take only a few hours at most.
You CAN put 2 12" Targas ported if you go below the recommended box specs. But you will be losing potential of your subs. And you might get a different sound that you may not like. According to other "Targa people" 2.5cubic feet is the right size for a single ported Targa. Meaning..if you go 2 Targas..you're going to lose your trunk space.
Spare tire? I don't have one hehehe..it's unusable, so, I removed it. But, for big box users like myself, you have to remove the sub box, and lift up your trunk floor to get to the spare. But,if you think about it, you only use the spare tire a few times a year.
I'm using a 12" Targa DVC4. I'm over powering it actually hehe. I'm feeding it about 300-400 watts. But, if you feel the need to go for more power than 1 single Targa, then you can go for a 400-500watt single sub instead. But, sir, if you haven't heard a single Targa sub yet, I think you'd be surprised with its power, if powered correctly. When I'm at the mall parking lot, and I turn up the music, I can set off alarms with my single sub. Gumagapang siya talaga. I was driving to my titas house, and she said she could hear me coming from down the street.
Here's a vid I made a while testing out a new video camera...the camera can't pick up the lows, so it sounds distorted. But it isn't distorted like that when you actually hear it. This was before I setup my trunk, so it's kinda messy with the wirings

June 5th, 2007 02:20 AM #895Wow the master is here!!!
*james0207
Master Guru v6dreamer is right havng two SUBs is really a heavy load for your car... not to mention the size of the box you're goin to need...
In my Experience.. I hade my car lifted for an INCH for the ride height. but you'll feel a little bit discomforted.. ksi matigas na ang shocks mo nun.. also, 2 SLP woofers.. solid sa ruttle ng Trunk, right now I'm doing a front firing box with almost 5 cubic feet volume "free air ung 2 L7s ko...". almost exact amount of the box is 4.9 cubic feet. << kulang sa volume pro I hope
kakayanin na nito... parang type 2 or 3 box combined.. sana pumwede.. heheh...
Dynamat is the best.. you can also try ung mga nabibili sa ACE hardware.. ung pang takip sa butas ng bubong... parang tape sya na parang ispalto ung pandikit...
PROS:lessen Rattle
CONS: Ang Bigat ng TRunk mo....
And also the thing i learned from PIONEER system.. Better to get ung mababang RMS/WATAGE sa AMP kesa sa SUBs.. to be safe...
Regarding Space? I suggest get a Dougnut <<"tama ba spelling?" heheh Tire for your spare.. malaking bagay un... lesser weigth ang space.
If kung mahihirapan ka mag saksak ng Box using two SUBs.. try to make 2 ported type 3 box.. isa isa mo silang ma ipapasok.. or unless you want to assemble your box inside your trunk... just like my new Box...
*james0207
If you have money.. invest on your AMPs.. un lang suggestion ko.. kesa mag invest ka sa SUBs...
SPL? masakit sa ulo yan.. kamukha ko... parating masakit ulo ko after a long sound trip.. heheh!!!

V6Dreamer is correct. If your alternator can't handle 2-3 amps and 2 subs..then you'd have to upgrade that. costing you maybe another 4k+. If you want great bass, 1 sub is good enough. In the future, if you want to upgrade, you can just upgrade 1 sub, instead of 2.
Yep! I still have a backseat. Sometimes when I ride alone, I flip down the backseat to get more "loudness". It just occupies my trunk.
Flashband i think..is what Jojan is referring to. Some like it, some don't like it. It really depends. But, when it comes to deadening, you should see it as an investment, if you're going to do it, do it right.

Ang lakas yan, 2 L7s hehe. 4.9CUbic Feet?? wowww... no more trunk space hehehe. So it was built in your trunk? Can you still remove your box? or is it fixed na?

June 5th, 2007 07:37 PM #899v6dreamer is my teacher online...
Konting EXP lang po pede kong i share as of now...
*KrisKros
Fix na tong Box.. dipa nga tapos eh.. ayaw ko pang bayuhin kasi baka mabaklas ung pandikit.. heheh!!! Half of my trunk is already taken by the box...
*james0207
About Deadendening... I suggest lagyan mo na nang branded.. kaso make it sure na malinis pagkaka lagay.. kasi mag aaksaya ka ng pera once na di mo nagustuhan ung alternative deadendener... pro why not try mo muna.. heheh.. pag medyo madumi pagkaka lagay.. there is alway a Fiber or Matings na pede mo syang itago.. para kasing mummified yung trunk mo nyan.. heheh
BTW: di lang sa Trunk nilalagay DEADENs pede ring sa mga Pintuan.. if you want to put SPL type SEPs...
Remember.. mas mabigat, mas malakas sa GAS!!!
