In general, you start with a good head unit (HU). Pioneer is a good brand and bang for the buck. I'd spend most of the money on good speakers, seps and subs. Remember this is the only thing that you actually hear. Brand will depend on your budget and preference. Amps are essential if you want to get the most out of the system.
For setups, dont skimp on the install. Quality is 50% equipment and 50% install. Always listen or audition other systems before you buy. This way you know what you are looking for.
