MY personal belief only,
pang-cellphone lang yang mga yan.
the big brands still lord it over, quality-wise.

For sound quality. I think factor din yung speaker.
For my 2018 Honda City, hindi noticeable yung change sa SQ (Stock vs Growl) - 6 speaker set-up, may City kasi noon na 4 speakers lang, I think yung MT version only had 2.

Them generic Android HUs, while all are similar in a lot of things, are made/assembled by a few dozen different companies. Quality and reliability will be all over the place. To a certain degree, this is the same case with OEM HUs but may benefit from better audio designs and stringent QC standards. But my point is, it's practically impossible to say for certain which ones are good or bad, unless you've actually made an A/B comparison.
But mid-tier to flagship units from brands like Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, Alpine, etc., just generally have better DACs, DPSs, and have properly-designed audio circuits that produces better clarity, warmness, and less noise and distortion in any volume level. Chinese manufacturers may copy designs from the big names, but they'll probably skimp on parts and just use crappy audio capacitors, transformers, transistors, and pre-/op-amps, etc.
It's all relative, of course. I like SQ but doing so, I'll be limited by the technology of the time... to borrow that quote. I'll still be listening to music or watching videos from a flash drive/HDD, DVD/CD, iPod Classic, or an SD card. I have tried bridging my HU into the future by adding a Roku Express+ with an A/V composite out so I can use the 2DIN HU as a monitor (but no touch input). But even doing that is limited. Hence, I had to trade SQ to be able to have more of the modern features.
I've seen one setup on a Pajero CK where the owner had two head units. He replaced the multi info display up top with an Android head unit, but it doesn't directly drive the speakers. In the usual place for the radio he still had a Pioneer head unit, and the Android was plugged into the AUX/Line-Input.
I thought it was an interesting solution basically made possible because the car had room for two HUs. Android for navigation and digital source playback, going into a traditional HU that provides known-good analogue amplification.
