Not to be confused with head units with Android Auto

This thread is for head units that run on Android (e.g. Growl & Navitopia, etc)

Planning to replace my car's AVT head unit.

Presently thinking if I should get a branded head unit with Android Auto and Apply CarPlay capabilities.

Or do I buy an Android Head Unit with CarPlay

Sent a message to Navitopia and Growl for their current offerings and their TOTL models support CarPlay.

Have anyone used CarPlay on a Navitopia or Growl head units? stable ba? no connection issues after long drives?

    Went to Navitopia and Growl

    funny observations.
they're not sure if the head unit will run Android 10 or 11, also can't confirm if my car will get a 9 or 10inch head unit

    both offers free home installation.
Navitopia is around 2K more expensive, but it comes with a free dash cam

Careful with navitopia. Been there, done that. The unit i got showed significant lag over time although admittedly i only opted for one of the entry level units. I really just needed a large screen for Waze and the stock stereo before didn't have Android auto so i still relied on my phone. Anyway, what i got was the Android 10, 2gb ram, 16gb rom as advertised. Upon installing CPU-z, it only shows 1gb ram but it does say Android 10.1. I don't know if this holds true to their totl units.

hmmm. nakaka-inis na may available silang 3 models (4 sa Navitopia) tapos iisa ang naka display, yung 6GB RAM na 128 storage. obviously maayos/mabilis UI nya.

I plan to get the 4/64 version and the sellers told me na "pareho lang sila ng speed"

Why don't you look at Joying instead of that, sir? You can get from their official store in AliExpress then have it shipped to a freight forwarder so it'll be more secure than direct shipping using our post office. There are better reviews of that brand and they don't mask the figures of their specs.

    wanted something with local support.

was almost decided to get the Navitopia one since may branch sila malapit sa favorite car wash shop ko. but my wife hated na may "Navitopia" name yung harap ng head unit.

Ah yes, local support. Totally understandable. That's the con of getting one from oversees.

I think you can request for one without the branding. Same here ayoko nakalagay "Navitopia" sa head unit and luckily they gave me one without any branding.

Or go with one of your original ideas and get a branded unit with Carplay and Android Auto. That's actually the solution we did because I gave up on the Android head unit. Sold our navitopia and got a pioneer avh-z5250bt instead. Even after selling the car the new owner liked the head unit and didn't change it.

was initially decided on getting a Pioneer head unit instead, kaso tempting yung YouTube and Netflix (etc)

Previous Gen City yung car ko so may malaking space sa area ng Head Unit, mas maganda tignan yung 9-10 inch screen sa harap.

Had the Growl Premium installed yesterday.

The new Hazard button looks cheap!

But the head unit is way better than AVT

A month after using my Growl Head Unit (4/64)

    Observations:

Radio volume is slightly higher than the volume of Waze (even with the loudness off). No issue if I use Spotify.
Same volume issue if I use the radio with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.

It will turn off and disconnect when I start the engine.

The unit will take some time to turn on, halos nakalabas na ako ng parking before I can use the unit.

Reverse camera is a split second slower compared to my AVT head unit

Yes you have an Android device in front of you... (however)

You need to update the Apps 1 by 1. Somehow, the update all doesn't work
    Android Auto keeps disconnecting (wireless)
I'm used to using gestures on Android and Growl does not support it.
I also cannot delete unused/empty home screens

And I can't seem to figure out how to add/switch user profiles... (anyone who uses the car will see my Google history)

You can't remove all Apps (messages and contacts feels weird)

Warning when buying China Android Head Units even from local vendors...

Android Head-Unit faking its hardware specifications | Team-BHP

Got an Astral HU "newer and more expensive" model ... claimed to be running on 1.5 A7 quad core running on Android 13...

    Ran CPU-Z on the unit.

Turns out running on 1.12 ghz A7 quad core circa 2013 and Android Level 29 aka version 10 only...

So better check their promo 7999 unit with CPU-Z app, baka 1 gb ram or lower Android version lang tinatakbo kaya cheap.
