I used the clear, acrylic glass, with border which I got from D.I.Y.

The glass is 9 mm thick, consisting of 3 layers of 3mm thick acrylic glass. Fastened with 6 screws thus sandwiching your plate in the middle. Making it quite heavy. Although a bit pricey (costs me around Ph P500) it looked nice.

I bought one and tried it on my REAR plate. I never did get to buy another one for my front plate coz the FRONT PLATE WAS STOLEN!!!

    AsaR!

Just found in Phil. Daily Inquirer page 3 Oct. 10 issue: "PNP is cracking down on motorists who use sirens, blinkers, expired commemorative plates and colored covers for license plates.... Palad said any tint or color that obstucts the view of the licese plates will be confiscated."

I use the Deflector brand plate cover, but I only use the frame, not the clear plastic cover since it's a PITA to get pulled over and have to debate with traffic cops because of the existing ordinances against its use.

Anyway, with the frame in place, my plates are still protected from getting snagged on pedestrians' clothing when they pass too close to the bumper.

according to TMG, clear glass plates daw are allowed. now it all depends on the different cities if they have ordinances to the contrary.

I second this. But, most of the times, "common sense" is no longer common.

Also, I have a habit of picturing cars with tinted plate covers and post them in my blog.

May ordinance ba? Binroadcast ba sa tv?
Mapsa: oo naman! pinalabas na yun sa Umagang Kay ganda.. eto yung ordinance o (o di ba.. tapos sabay labas ng papel na may ordinance at inabot sa akin)
    Binasa ko.. tapos...
Ako: a.. oo nga no.. sa Makati lang to? so yung ibang cover na clear pwede?

mine is bluish deflector AND whenever i go to makati, i make sure na inaalis ko ang blue plastic at ititira ko ang chrome frame para pogi pa rin at the same time protection sa corners ng plate.

Hassle? well, it only takes 5min for both BUT if matsambahan ka ng "friendly makati boys", laking abala at gasgas pa bulsa mo.

IMO, plate covers are helpful. Prevents plate theft, helps avoid bent plates (esp. in front), and Rizal plates easily fade. I've seen many Rizal plates faded na its hard to see the number. Plates with cover (clear deflector), always have new-looking and easily readable plates.
