AFAIK, sa Altis, Camry, Innova uses optitron gauges, pag patay ang makina wala kang makikita, makikita mo lang pag naka on. Yung sa CRV, di pa ata optitron kita mo kasi yung needle and speedometer and revlimiter physically.

Yep, optitron gauges yun. I think the street-term for those gauges is "silhoutte-lit". Ang inspiration behind optitron gauges eh yung mga expensive Swiss watches at yung mga dials sa high-end audiophile equipment. AFAIK, the very tiny LEDs of these gauges range from $ 2250-350 per car in terms of production costs. Yung optitron gauges sa Corolla at sa Camry, borrowed technology yun from the Lexus cars.

Designers predict that as this design feature becomes popular, production costs would go down...hopefully.

mmm... its not the same with the optitron gauges in a corolla altis. In the Altis, you can't see anything when the engine is off as in blank - needle, speedometer, etc.
