sir dprox and the tsikoteers,
Hopefully,Filipinos will support (in any manner) the PHUV project of MVPMAP. I hope MVPMAP will be consistent in initiating, supporting this kind of endeavor. I hope also that they will do it because there is a genuine desire of all members of MVPMAP to come up with our own vehicle and not because they just want to save their businesses. But of course they are definitely entitled to do that but I hope when they become successful, whatever profit they will earn will be re-invested to develop further their existing and future products.
It should be noted that hundreds of firms and thousands of workers depend on this industry, I mean the parts manufacturing, vehicle fabrication and assembly. Of course I will not consider the importation (smuggling!) of used vehicles and brand new CBU vehicles because they are in fact not helping the motor industry but making it more backward and to add insult to injury, taking away the jobs needed by Filipinos.
I'm happy when foreign car manufacturers invest in our country to "produce daw" vehicles in the Philippines. But the truth is, its so obvious they they come here not to help develop a domestic vehicle industry for the country BUT just to EARN MORE (and remit their profits to Japan, Korea, US, India, Germany).
And how about the local industry? eto, still in its infant stage(with diapers pa!kasi tornilyo, pandikit, rubber o hose lang sabi ni mekaniko Japan dapat kasi manina o alang local). Before you can see that your windshield is made by Republic-Asahi, Tires by PhilThread, batteries by Motolite/oriental etc. ngayon gulong gaing Indonesia, China, US, germany, taiwan, Korea pati carpet China na. Hay!puro imported ala na trabaho pinoy!!!
Before, during the time of Marcos or Cory ata vehicle assembled here are required to have a minimum of 40% local content (umabot na ata at one time sa 50% di pa kasama labor.ngayon less than 40% ata kasama labor.
That is why we should not blame anyone but ourselves if there are few job opportunities in the country because WE DESTROYED THEM! What's the use of a mechanical or industrial engineer here in our country, pag naggawa ng prototype, siraan kaagad ng kapwa pinoy kasi di raw maibenta. Then, the consequent social costs of unemployment and underemployment are (robbery, drug addiction etc.)worsening because of lack of opportunity---yung nawalan ng trabaho will resort then to criminality in desperation.
Anyways, the revival of of the domestic motor industry is anchored on the success of the PHUV projects of all concern groups including the Tsikoteers' dream PHUV. I suggest mag merge nlang kasi Sarao at FMC. tapos for the last time ibuhos nila pera at effort nila sa isang new generation na passenger workhorse diba? ipangalan nila sa company Anfra-Sarao Motor Corp, para Daimler-Chryler ba, di ba may dating, nostalgic pa.
We are not dreaming of a high tech vehicle--mainly because marami ng nauna judging from the documentary that Discovery channel has produced--Future cars. What we need is to come up with a truly manufacturing and not assembly domestic motor industry that is vibrant, respectable and can truly compete with other global brands in terms of --take note-- FUNCTIONALITY AND QUALITY. (wag na burloloy cars, hayaan na natin sa mga Germans (Smart, Porsche,Maybach) British (Bentley, Austin Mini, Jaguar, Aston Martin) Japanese (Evo, Prius), Italian (Lancia, Alfa-Romeo) and the USA (PIMP My Ride)
But of course, isama na rin yun add-ons as suggested sa early part ng thread na ito. We filipinos kasi galit sa open space (di tayo minimalist). Gusto may altar sa lahat ng sasakyan, may mga stickers or decals or mga accesories na baka sakaling makaapekto sa pagbilis ng takbo ng sasakyan etc.
Tsikoteers, lets go to market!market!show our support to the PHUV project!yung may pera bili na kayo ng PHUV!yung ala naman at pobre na katulad ko, mag-ahente at magbenta tayo! All out support tayo

Tsikoteers,
just an after thought,
I hope somebody will convince local assemblers such as Norkis (Quisumbings),Columbian Motors (Solid Group?), Sarao (Saraos), Franscisco Motors (Franciscos) to form a consortium and tie up with an established global vehicle manufacturer for technical/management support--KAIZEN, JIT, 5S, TUV etc.--- (Isuzu, Mazda, Fuso, Hino, Fuji heavy--Subaru (Japan); Ford, GM or Saab (US); Shanghai and Beijing Auto, Chery, Foton (China), Kia, Hyundai, Sangyong, GM Daewoo ( Korea), Tata (India), Volkwagen (Germany)) ala Proton and Perodua of Malaysia and them come up with a PHUV as their first entry level product. Then they can move to truck and bus manufacturing. look at the history of TATA Motors and Maruti-Udyog of India.
If MVPMAP can do it why not these guys? Sila at lahat tayo makikinabang.
I think this is the best thing to do. The car market will be a very difficult market to crack for a local version---for now. Look at the industry stat from CAMPI and MVPMAP.
AUV, PHUV, TRUCK and BUS manufacturing is the best segment where our local manufacturers can come in.
The Philippine market has huge potential and needs to be unlocked. We are 88 million strong (2007 est and 13th largest in the world with China, India and Indonesia leading in terms of population) with 7-10million OFWs ( DOLE-POEA, kasama kaya TNTs dito?). Grabe market dito atin.
Paging FMC, CMC, Sarao, Norkis, MDJuan,Malaguena, Amante--Castro, Carter, Atendido asan na kayo?! for God's sake and for your survival MERGE!Establish SYNERGY! This is the only way to go in a highly-competitive global market!
Tsikoteers, sino ba sa inyo may PhD sa Psych, or Marketing para ma-convince sila na bilhin ang prototype PHUV na on the works sa thread na ito.

June 11th, 2007 07:43 AM #636Auto parts makers to launch first RP-made utility vehicle
By Ma. Elisa P. Osorio
Monday, June 11, 2007
The Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (MVPMAP) will launch the first Philippine Utility Vehicle (PhUV) tomorrow, a move that is expected to make vehicles more affordable to Filipinos.
The PhUV is designed to carry both people and cargo, making it ideal for business use on weekdays and family use on weekends.
Aside from supplying cheaper vehicles, MVPMAP said the PhUV is likewise expected to resuscitate the local industry. In a statement, the umbrella organization said most of their members have been operating only at 40 percent capacity.
“ We are expecting the PhUV Program to do this as we believe it can be the much-needed catalyst to revive our ailing local auto parts industry.,” MVPMAP said.
President Arroyo and other top government officials are expected to attend the launch at the Market!Market! Complex in Taguig.
Two local companies – Dreamco Automobile Co., Inc., the importer, manufacturer and distributor of Foton light commercial vehicles and trucks and Francisco Motors – have given their support to the project.
In a statement, Dreamco vice president Greg Yee said they are supportive of initiatives to develop the local auto industry. Dreamco has committed to supply the Foton diesel engine powertrain, platform and other completely knocked-down parts for a PhUV prototype that MVPMAP will develop.
“We told MVPMAP that our commitment does not start and end with the PhUV prototype. Our company’s resources can be utilized for the PhUV Program, from our state-of-the-art assembly plant at the Laguna Technopark in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, to our eighteen dealers nationwide that can provide the much-needed after-sales service, parts and components for the PhUV,” he said.
Dreamco, a Board of Investment-registered assembler and a member of the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA), is importing, assembling and distributing commercial vehicles from China through its network of dealers and service centers nationwide. It is the authorized Philippine distributor of Beiji Foton Motor Co. Ltd and Nanjing Automotive Co. Ltd. for its Yuejin and Naveco commercial vehicles.
MVPMAP director and head of the PhUV technical working group (TWG) Ferdi Raquelsantos explained that the prototype of Dreamco will be different from the model of Francisco Motors.
“This means that any assembler could have his own version of the vehicle, in much the same way as in the defunct People’s Car Program, just as long as the participant meets all the criteria set under the program,” he explained.
To drum up interest in the project, Raquelsantos said they will ask the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to exempt car assemblers and parts makers from excise tax. He said they will submit a proposal before the tri-partite PhUV TWG composed of representatives from the car assemblers, parts makers and the DTI.

Hi Romski123,
Nope, Im not from the car industry but a citizen of our Republic dying to see our country to regain some respect, and the PHUV project I think can start the ball rolling. i hope the Tsikoteers will not get tired reading my kilometric posts.
It should be noted that for a country to earn some form of respect from global players is to come up with flagship industries (the heavy ones)---steel, petrochemical, machinery, electronics and MOTOR industry---that will show their technological might.
Making pulburon, imitating Hollywood, imitating the lifestypes of the rich and famous (nakita ko sa magazine show yung mga artista natin pinakikita yung rides nila ala Hollywood--porsche, mercedes, expedition--cigurado di bibili ng PHUV mga yan. Well anyway, for me empty yun kasi patay na pinoy movie industry dahil din sa kanila--nagsawa tayo sa kanila, puro porma ala naman talent,--asan ka Behn Cervantes at Lino Brocka), imitating the way Americans how to speak, dance and wear clothes, importing everything including karayom and sinulid, fabricating pa-pogi body kits will not catapult us to the 21st century.
Pangit pakinggan, for geo-economic and political considerations, sa totuo lang di naman tayo pansin sa abroad, dito nga sa kapit-bahay nating ASEAN, pobre tayo e kumpara sa kanila. Basta may passport pinoy, mapa-politiko, mapa artista, mapa-mayaman, professional o ordinaryong citizen, mababa tingin sa atin. Ala e we do not know what to prioritized---gustong maging world-power sa basketball pero ang tallest Pinoy is 7-2, lampa pa ata, maging hub for auto shows, ala naman tayo kotse talaga. kaya angas Koreano kasi may pagyayabang sila, dati mas pobre sila sa atin, ngayon, puede na silang maging mata-pobre.
Look, to become rich and powerful, the leading rich and industrialized countries fom the G7 made their hands dirty and created by sweat and blood their respective global and high-class MOTOR industry: Japan--well ang dami, Toyota (world's no.1); USA--GM,Ford; Canada--wala ito bakit kasama sa grupo?; Germany--Volkwagen (english nito people's car), BMW, Ferdinand Porsche;France--Renault, Citroen; Italy--Fiat, Maserati, Ferrari; United Kingdom---Jaguar, Bently, Rolls-Royce, Austin Mini (ang kotse ng bayan ng British).
Even "lowly" Korea has Kia-Hyundai, Gm Daewoo, Samsung-Renault; India---Maruti-Udyog, Tata; Spain--CEAT; Malaysia---Proton, Perodua.
Now, the Philippines---uh, eh, hmmm, wait, isip-isip, If I will say Sarao o Anfra, pagtatawanan lang ako ng FOREIGNERS,--- and low and behold even my fellow ordinaryong Filipinos at ibang Tsikoteers sa thread na ito na may very sophiticated taste (with these kind of friends, we need no enemies--bagsak Pinas kahit walang missile mula sa kalaban)
The pillars of a strong economy and a motor industry--engineers, architects, scientists, designers, welders, tinsmiths, mechanics--are reduced to sellers of industrial machines because alang domestic industry to hire them. Maawa tayo sa sarili natin.Highly-skilled OFWs--Hein, Pobre parin, Oyil--help us--be entrepinoys--kasi yung iba OFw lahat ng pera ubusin sa bahay at kotse, sa Duty-free, cellphone at hindi for productive purposes.
We cannot be forever agents and servants of foreign interests! If we will not help ourselves, who will?yung nagsasabi na gawin na lang tayo state ng US are lunatics. Tingnan nga nila Puerto Rico, tanong nila kay Dayanara Torres kung gaano sila ka pobre.
My GOD, help us Filipinos to wake up from our deep slumber and realize that we need to wake up, pick up our Bandila, our flag and support the PHUV
projects of all Filipinos (of course, including the Tsikoteers PHUV project!)

jpdm, text mo ko if you're going to the launch tomorrow. We can EB right there.
Clarification again: The PhUV that will be launched tomorrow is the MVPMAP PhUV, not the Tsikot PhUV that we are still designing in this forum.
However the MVPMAP PhUV may look, it will have to serve as a symbol of independence and the beginning of an increasingly self-reliant and dignified Filipino auto industry. We will be there to give our full moral support. To the vehicle, the flag, and the anthem, I mean.
