What is the difference in price/cost for a typical Metro Manila tricycle (including motorcycle) and those three wheelers used for delivery/utlity like Pepsi, etc?

That might be a step forward (after 60 years) for the tricycle/sidecar design used in Metro Manila.

I believe the average cost of the bike is P65K... the sidecar will be about P15K without the borloloys.

After they pimp it up with whistles and lights... maybe another P50K or more.

For the Kuligligs... its probably about P30K - Brigs or Honda 50cc genset motor included.... - ball park figure.

I mean the one that look like this:

The rear flatbed can be changed into a seating area similar to FB vans.

That as compared to the cost of the regular tricycle with sidecar.

Actually I have seen some water and lpg delivery service vehicles using soemthing similar to it. I even saw a softdrink company using this as delivery vehicle to areas with narrow roads.

The engine is only slightly bigger than what is used on tricycle with side cars so it won't be fast so it cannot be used on the highways.

so ganun ang parang mainpurpose nya?
hmm mas durable ba ang ganyan compared to tricycles? or parang parehas lang?

It's main purpose is cargo/utility but it can be used to carry people as well.

I would think it would be better suited than the typical tricycle which is just a retrofit to a standard motorcycle. It can carry more people (4 to 6) with better comfort than the supposed anorexic two adults a standard tricycle sidecar is supposed to be able to carry.

    The "Truck-cycle"

I remember, we used one of those with an open top when we delivered a refrigerator to our place. It pulled pretty decently, but I wouldn't recommend regular overloading 'coz the engine sounded heavily strained when we used one back then.

Given its setup, I think it could comfortably seat 4 people plus a few bags. The model with a reverse gear (used by Coke) would be nice as a shuttle in a big subdivision.

GH, The Truckcicle you posted is sold in MAKRO for about P112K... if I'm not mistaken. China made with Reverse Gear.

The rear panel can either be open wagon or closed van with provision for rolling stor applications or a caged type carrier with a good payload capacity.

And when you finished shopping.. They have 2 Indian-Made tuktuks for their free hatid for clients without cars.

This is in IMUS I am talking about.

Anyway, Im still hoping our government will come to its senses and ban all this kind of contraptions in the streets. The state should compel those TODAs to follow certain standards for their 3 wheelers. And they can easily copy those made in China to make their vehicles safer, efficient and look alot better.

This is a better replacement of the tricycle. Paging Blaze or MCX, please copy these tricycles.

Last night on Quirino Ave, Manila I came across one of those motorized pedicabs but the bicycle is kinda custom built with the engine already placed under the "driver" with a sort of crude semi-automatic clutch & pulley drive system that is probably based around a centrifugal clutch system.

Anyway, my main gripe is that rolling heap of metal bars & tarpauline was allowed to run on the main roads and it doesn't even have the most basic of lighting. I mean, no headlights, no tail-lights, no lights whatsoever.

When will the government come to its senses? Certainly not until 2010 which is election year. Owners of this contraptions will get away with it, i.e non-payment of registration fees, emmission test and yet they use the roads and cause traffic. I am not so sure if they require a driver's license to operate one of this. The "tyranny of the poor", mahirap lang po kami - the owners will reason out.

We could now see an evolution of the pedal pushing "side-cars" to this motorized three wheelers which some folks call the "tricikan".

Brisk business for sellers of those Briggs and Straton gasoline engine water pumps.

Noynoy or Villar should do something about it. This not the wilderness or Mad Max country. We have to put some order in our streets. We also need to eliminate these hideous 3 wheeler creatures because they add to the ugliness of most urban areas in the country. Time to act as a "newly industrialized country" and one of the exclusive "next 11 emerging nations in the world" based on the classifications given to us by global institutions like IMF-WB.

Personally I see the utility of these types of vehicles. I also saw the evolution of these vehicles from it's more crude initial versions.

What I am concerned with is the safety aspects of these vehicles. These vehicles were made without plan and using whatever parts available or that could be afforded which usually means it's not using the proper parts at all.

Road rules and regulations are meant to encourage safety on the road, not just to generate income for the government.

I am not sure if they can do something when they are seen riding in one. A Morning talk show speculates that Roxas may be riding in a "pedicab" as he goes to church for his wedding tomorrow. Looks like a populist/political stunt intended to solicit support from urban poor.

The Philippines should have enjoyed NIC-hood status 30 years ago! We'll its never to late.
