hi! our altis is just around 3 mos old and already has this problem. when i brought it in for the 1st pms, i asked the mechanic about it (i was expecting it is covered by the warranty) but the mechanic didn't look at it because mahirap daw buksan yung aircon? i guess i should have insisted, but at that time, i thought the sour stink just lasts less than a minute so baka no biggie (but it really stinks to a point i gag)... but thinking about it now, i'd rather get it fixed before it worsens... and it says in this thread it's due to molds! i'd like to ask:

    1. is the aircon check-up covered by the warranty?
    2. if there are parts that need replacing, it should be free/covered, right?
    3. can i bring it to the casa out of pms schedule (i just got the 1st pms 2 wks ago).. as in drop by any casa (not the branch where i bought it)?

    thanks!

but isn't that a temporary solution? there's a toyota branch very close to where i live so it's not a hassle to bring it back... i'd like to know tho if the above 3 points are applicable so i know how and what to "demand" under the warranty... not unless what you're saying is even if they fix/replace it, it will eventually go back to this state in a few months? i wish mcbry (or anyone who got theirs fixed) could check back in here so i can ask if the problem returned.

if your car is a vios, parang ganyan din ang problema nung utol ko dun sa 5 month old vios nya.... amoy vinegar eh.

Installing an aircon filter worked on mine. Makakatulong din siguro ang dehumidifier.

That smell comes from bacterial growth on the cooling coil and adjacent surfaces.

Aluminum, unlike copper or stainless, is not bacteriostatic. Remember back in the 80's when cars then still had copper coils?

Quick and dirty (pardon the pun) solution is to install an car air ionizer. Occasional cleaning helps too.

I Think the odor is cause by the detergent use by A.C. Shop in cleaning our evaporator..... my ride po dati wala naman bad odor ngayon meron ng kunti... kami lang kasi nag linis ng rear evaporator ang natira nalang eh yung evaporator hanging and w.o pulling it down, ginamitan ko ng detergent... ngayon may bad smell na sa umpisa... pero yung front na a.c. wala pa din bad smell...

BACTERIA? YES maybe.... yung a.c. shop na EDS after nila linisin ANG evaporator, oven pa nila yung evaporator, may malaking malaking oven sila pang evaporator at condenser, sabi nila dapat daw kasi free from moisture ang loob ng evaporator at condenser natin at pag may moisture the moisture mix with ANY refrigirant can cause changes sa chemical composition of the refrigirant and could be the cause of some a.c. why hindi na ganun kalamig tulad ng bago... IMO at baka din the moisture will freeze and it will cause clogging sa a.c. system at IMO PUtting it in the oven will also helps to kill the bacteria build up sa Evaporator natin....

When cleaning the coil you'd want to dry it thoroughly.

But it will inevitably pick up moisture later on, and bacteria from the surrounding air.

You can try generously spraying lysol under the dash while the A/C is on so as to disinfect the coil.

    Works for us.

    Yes it is bacteria.

As per `Automotive Airconditioning and Climate Control Sytems` 2006 Edition

We use 70% alcohol, seems to work too.

Sharing, how to replace Cabin Filter on a 2015 Mitsubishi Montero sport 2015.
These steps are applicable to all 2nd Generation Mitsu Montero Sport.
    Hope this helps.

How to Replace Cabin Air Filter on a Montero Sport GLX 2015 - YouTube

    - cabin filter should be replaced every 7,000 to 10,000 km
    - once signs of foul odor starts, check the ac filter and see if its already dirty
    - its easy to replace and it would save you some money instead of having the casa replace it for you.

    hope this helps.

^25000km ang palit sa akin..every 5000km linis lang

Before replacing the cabin filter, check first the condition after cleaning, if the segments are torn apart already then thats the time to replace it

For fragrance, spray the filter fibers with your favorite perfume after cleaning it ofcourse
