2008 Vios A/C

My vios has a problem with its a/c. Last december, biglang nagkaroon ng odor yung a/c. So pinasok namin yung kotse sa casa nung January. They cleaned the a/c tapos pagkuha namin wala na amoy. Then 2 weeks after bumalik yung odor sa a/c. Then sabi ng SA namin sa Toyota Commonwealth, "sir dahil po kasi sa air freshener mo po kaya may mabaho na amoy yung a/c. Gel type po kasi sir." Sabi ko naman, "dati na meron ganitong pabango ito ngayon lang nagkaroon ng amoy yung a/c." Tapos they cleaned the a/c again, this time nilagyan nila ng shampoo. Then they recommend to me using either Ambi Pur or California Scents, dahil daw hindi gel type mga yun. First i used Ambi Pur. After one month, bumalik na naman yung amoy! This time clueless na ang casa kung bakit ganun ang problema. Nilinis nila ulit yung a/c. Then i switched to California Scents since 2 weeks ago. Guess what happened? Nung monday lang bumalik uli yung amoy! Napapa WTF! na lang ako, ipapasok na nga ulit sa friday yung vios.

This odor (amoy hindi na tuyo) is quite common in cars these days. Try this. Three to Five minutes before reaching your destination, switch off the a/c and raise the blower speed to medium-high. I also heard people turning off the recirculate mode.

please have it checked at other aircon specialist, definitely it is not your perfume that causes it, for me i prefer na di na sa casa but the downside is baka ma-void warranty mo. i think what causes the bad odor is the freon..there may be leak somewhere..maybe may butas yun condenser (just a guess ha...) but hopefully it can be remedied simply by general cleaning of the aircon system..from the compressor, evaporator, condenser, and the whole lines..hope this helps...

Tried doing those methods lot of times. Ganun pa rin, mabaho ang amoy. Read in other websites that it is a factory defect of the new vios. Kahit sa Singapore at Malaysia ganun din ang reklamo.

I'm assuming the foul odor is only evident during the first minute or even less?

Btw, I do notice this smell in a lot of recent cars. a '06 CRV I used once is also like this. Our '06 Fortuner is also the same. Btw, after I added a new toyota cabin filter, the smell disappeared for like a day before it came back again.

Yes, turning the a/c off before reaching destination has no effect on mine either. The initial a/c startup still stinks.

Definitely there is something that is not drying up inside the aircon system. I read somewhere that it is the condensor? fins?. It is bec. of moisture that causes bacteria? (which might explain the foul smell) to form.

if there's no evident leak from evap, there must have a fault into the drainage of the evap housing . it could be a faulty design by the manufacturer itself allowing the bacteria to multiply.

I'm sorry di pala condenser ang baka may butas...EVAPORATOR PALA...but then again guess lang yun ha.. siguro mga 99% sure lang..he he he...

Guys update ko lang kayo. Kakalabas lang ng sasakyan kanina sa casa. Nung tuesday tinawagan ko sila, tinanong ko kung anong nakita. Sabi ng SA, "sir, san mo ba pinapark yung sasakyan?" Sabi ko, "sa labas ng bahay." Then the SA said, "marami kaming nakita na dahon sa may aircon vent sa may wiper eh, maraming dumi." Tapos he blurted out suddenly, "sir tinanggal namin yung California Scents, yun kasi nagpalala ng amoy, naghalo-halo sila ng dati mong Ambi Pur." Dun pa lang takang-taka na ako, kasi it took a month or so na hindi ako gumamit ng pabango sa kotse at naglagay ako ng California Scents. Then our driver picked it up kanina, the SA now blames the car freshener for the bad odor. His reason: "tinignan na namin lahat ng components, walag sira. Naghalu-halo yung amoy ng Ambi Pur dati at yung California Scents kaya nagkaroon ng amoy yung aircon. Hindi ko na i-baback job ito pag nangamoy ulit." Nalaman ng dad ko and he scolded me big time, blaming me for the bad odor emitted by the a/c because of car fresheners I put.

Odor generation is caused by; body cells, dust, dirt, mold and tobacco. These are then turned into fatty acid, acetoaldehyde, pyridine and ammonia. These chemicals adhere to the evaporator together with the cool/damp environment in the cooling unit nurtures bacteria, yeast and mold. Hehe sorry ha medyo scientific.

+1 on this. Wag ka muna gumamit ng air refreshener. Ako matagal na ako hindi gumagamit niyan... uling lang ayos na.

btw dun sa a/c shop na pinapagawan ko, never sila gumagamit ng shampoo or any scented cleaning agent sa paglinis ng a/c kasi daw mabango ng sa umpisa pero in the long run may effect sa evap. Ang gamit nila yung odorless na sabon. Dont know saan nila nabibili pero sa a/c daw talaga ginagamit yun.
