^ACI had to change their direction. I remember the former head of VW in the Philippines, when asked if Chinese made VWs are sold here, he said “what’s made in China, stays in China”. Now, Ayala Corp is warming up to everything Chinese. At the end of the day, its still business.

There was a time when then VW Phil. boss JP Orbeta once answered (when queried if VW Phil will sell VWs made in China) “What’s made in China stays in China”. But when du30 came into power, AC Ind. surprisingly flip flopped. Orbeta out, Estrella in.

yeah. they offered under-spec'd, old model cars na made in china thinking na nameplate + lower price will do the trick. if they want to sell chinese-made cars, it should be over-spec'd and very competitively priced.

The Jetta, Golf, Golf GTS and current gen Tiguan will probably sell better even if they are made in China.

The models sold here look so dated, even for a VW.

People wanted the Jetta and the Golf because they are the ones in Europe and North America. Most wouldn’t buy a Euro brand if they are going to get a Chinese market model.

The Jetta was offered in 3 engine options locally (1.4L TSI, 1.6L TDI, 2.0L TDL) and they sold well. They even have the 1.6L TDI offered with a 6MT tranny. Even much better when discounts were offered on all models. All models were based on the global models. Even the more premium 2.0L TDI model priced at 1.5M still had buyers.

We are happy with our Jetta 1.6L TDI and so with Vinj with his Golf GTS 2.0L TDI. The fit and finish is better than an Altis or Civic. I wouldn’t have hesitated buying the Golf 1.4L TSI as it was a really nice car to drive.

Siguro kung parang Ecosport or Stonic na entry level, pero global models pa din.
