I guess Volkswagen International are still testing the Philippines and the new distributor Ayala Auto Group if they can manage and survive the market experimentation with china models.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for the Golf GTI MK7.5, the model was released in other markets last year. Maybe Europe has a surplus of their own after the emission regulations & probably send it to the Philippines a bunch if they can't sell it there, VW Golf GTI Killed By WLTP In Europe; GTI Performance Soldiers On

Just imagine how hard things are for the team working on VW Philippines...

Golf/Jetta etc were there for X number of years and how many do you see on local roads?
(not including the ones you see on a daily basis)

So now they're trying to introduce models that can compete with price.

Personally, we are in the market for a new car and I've been talking to my wife about VW.

She has seen the interior of the City and (previos Gen) Vios...

When I saw a VW display sa mall, we went in the Golf then she gave me the "eto na yun look"

Don't understand the strategy with Volkswagen Philippines with their offerings. Why would you remove the Jetta and Golf from the market when you're starting to gain some traction with traditional Japanese car buyers? :nono:

Is it just me or flimsy talaga ang interior pieces ng lavida and santana. Doesn't feel sulit. Aircon switches, cupholder cover, glovebox. Same sa tiguan... Ganun rin.

I drive a Civic FC but everytime I see the prev. gen Jetta (MK6) nagagadahan pa din ako and napapaisip what if nag Jetta ako.

Yung current gen Jetta (MK7) okay din sobrang ganda sa features, pero aesthetically parang mas okay pa yung MK6.

Dapat i offer na lang nila lahat para mas madami choices, especially the MK7 Jetta.

Too bad VW PH is going backwards. Instead of selling the new Jetta they sell the old and plain Lavida.

But then again maybe they don't care about the compact segment anymore. Too small.

Subcompact is where it's important to win. Santana is definitely better than the Polo in terms of price point.

VW-PH should have opted for the Jetta and Golf GTS for our market. Even better if they sold more of the 1.6L TDI Jetta.

^ nagtest drive ako nung manual. Ang awkward nung position ng left leg ko. Nasa ginta dahil nasa gitna ang clutch. Langya. Magkakalapit yung 3 pedals. Not really an issue yung magkakalapit. Kaso yun nga, halos nasa gitna ang clutch pedal. Aside form that, ok naman idrive

What surprises me is the lavida. Very powerful. Very agile. Hamak na mas ok kaysa mazda 3 and altis. Sa civic maiksi lang masyado test drive ko noon kaya can't compare

    very true. lousy china cars.

dismayado ako since i am a caddy owner. replacing them with outdated china cars. it doesn't speak well of the company that holds the current dealership in our country.

The Lavida comes with a turbocharged engine and it offers more torque at low rpms compared to the usual 1.6L NA engine of local compact cars, more torque even against 2.0L NA engines. The gas model versions of the 2016 Jetta and Golf also used a 1.4L turbo engine but tuned for more output, 150hp/250Nm instead of the 128hp/225Nm of the Lavida.

I was also surprised to see an “all-new” lineup of VW cars and none of the old timers at PIMS, like the Golf, Polo & Passat. The Tiguan was the only familiar car.

... and it's not even the newer Volkswagen Tiguan ... it's actually even older than the Tiguan released before this ...

Agree. Until they sell again the Golf, Jetta, etc, Volkswagen Philippines is dead to me.
Heck even Volkswagen China market sells the Golf. Meanwhile, even on by-order basis, Volkswagen PH won't.
