X5 - probably the best of the four for me if price was no object. styling is subjective, obviously, pero ang gwapo pa rin ng bimmer even after 5 years. bimmer interiors are traditionally luxurious without being over-the-top, but the X5 4.4 is an exception. they must use a tree for every car sa dami ng wood. ergonomics is typically excellent and very familiar for anyone who's owned a bimmer in the last 20 years. one problem i have had with bimmers is that their leather wears out fast, and i expect the same problem here. cargo space is pretty limited. power is probably the best of the three, but not by much, and handling is the best by far, which is no surprise. why did i not buy it over the touareg? two reasons - it's about $10k more, and it's going to get replaced soon.
ML500 - this SUV is a little dated. not a lot of power, doesn't handle very well compared to the bimmer and vw, and the ride quality is harsher. the interior is pretty nice, but i honestly expect more from mercedes. it does have good cargo capacity, but i honestly would wait till 2006 to see what the new M-class looks like and see how mercedes plans to once again set the standard for luxury suv's. the other thing i disliked was how expensive the options are for a mercedes. keep checking boxes and you can easily add 25% to the car's price. again, this design is 8 years old so i can't be too down on it.
why the VW?
