in a radio interview this morning...

    from what i understand.
uber (and grab?) were designed for the private car owner, who wants to make a little income on the side, during the times when his private car is not in use by the owners.
so, after bringing the kids to school and the missus to the office, hubby can wait for a call to fetch a passenger to bring to the destination. logically, he will accept it only if he is already in the area.
now, somewhere along the way, some people got a germ of an idea and bought one or more cars, hired drivers, and had them pick up passengers under the uber or grab shield, on a full-time basis. voila! instant taxi! and without the hassle of applying for a franchise.
