In Tokyo? I searched on the internet and found mainly just the bigger establishments with all you can eat buffets. I preferred the smaller family-owned Mom and Pop restaurants. There were a couple I ate in. But, I can't read Kanji and they're tucked away in one of the countless sidestreets of Tokyo.

The one trip where I went to Tokyo, I didn't do any of the tourist tours. I merely took a bus into town, got off and simply walked all over the place. I didn't have luggage with me on that trip; just my laptop backpack with a single change of clothes, a couple of underwear, toiletries. I was kind of like a hippie. Half the time, I had no idea where I was going. But somehow, I managed to find my way back to the Haneda Excel every time.

During the times I ate at the all-you-can-eat places, I had an amusing time watching Japanese kids who kept looking back and eyeing me with curiosity. Maybe it was my poor chopstick skills. He He.

Kanin? Sort of. I was leaning close to the food. I tried to pick up a big piece of gooey rice with the chopsticks. But, before I can get it into my mouth, it slipped and fell into the bowl of miso(?) soup and splattered soup on my face and the table.

I looked left then I looked right. I figured no one saw me make a mess. Then I looked up and there they were, a couple of 5-6 yr old kids giggling at me. Their mom had a hard time making them eat because they were too busy watching me.

Using chopsticks was at first hard especially since I was a leftie. But, I eventually got the hang of using it with the right hand.

    1. Don't stay at normal tourist business hotels. Stay at hotels, hostels and dormitories. You'll shave about $400 with this.

    2. Pick a hostel/dorm that's near a subway/JR station. Never check in a hotel airport because you'll kill your budget in terms of commuting.

    3. For food, eat at convenience stores. You can get a fulfilling decent lunch meal for about 150-200 pesos there. However you went to Japan to taste its culture so I suggest splurge on food once in a while

    4. Get a one day unlimited subway/JR/bus ticket for only 700 yen. Mahal subway sa japan kaya get this

    and finally

    5. Learn to speak basic Japanese. Best asset in japan because they cant speak no engrish

    Per day:
Food : $30 (2 conbini bento meals, 1 decent meal and a snack)
Transpo: $15 (get the all in one subway/JR/bus unlimited ticket)
Accomodation: $40-50 (presuming you get a hostel or a dorm)
Tickets, museums: $40 at most (maraming libre sa japan. Sony Museum, Toyota Museum, Bandai Headquarers, Tocho)
