We did pass by Gardens by the Bay. i would advise bringing food there though, medyo taga yung presyo ng restos inside.

i stayed in hotel 81 in lorong 8. "the price was right." it's in the heart of the red light district. but if you're used to manila, you won't feel un-easy there.
it's strictly a sleeping hotel. no hotel lounge to read newspapers in, as you wait for your colleagues. no food. the deal-breaker, and this is probably true of all budget hotels, is the size of the rooms. i got by because it was just me. and the view outside your window is nothing to brag about.
the restaurants are a short block away, easily walk-able, even for kids. the chinese (?) resto at the corner is cheep and masarap naman. turo lang. no engrish.
the train station is kinda far but walkable. the bus station is a short block away, and taxis are easy to get.

don't worry about the redness of the area. "they're decent, even at night."
and disregard the "welcome hotel odor of... spice". i got used to it.

the bigger, nicer name-brand hotels in "more favorable locations" are as superior as their rates. $$$!

you might also try YMCA (serious!). that's where some of my colleagues stay.
or you might look up the small hotels in chinatown. again, room size may be a deal-breaker here.

    have fun.

"don't miss the en-bubbled indoor garden and waterfall."

you might want your travel agent to make your bookings. they can give the DIY plane and hotel bookings a run for their money.

and of course, the earlier the bookings, the potentially cheaper you can get them.

Police arrest gang who pickpocket shoppers along Orchard Road | Today
    Dec. 23, 2017

SINGAPORE — The police have arrested three women who allegedly worked as a team to pickpocket unsuspecting shoppers along Orchard Road.

The victims in the three separate cases of theft reported that items such as wallets and a mobile phone were stolen from their bags at malls along the shopping belt on Thursday (Dec 21).

The police identified and arrested the three suspects on Friday. TODAY understands that the three women are Filipinos.

Three mobile phones, an EZ-Link Card, one internet banking dongle and cash amounting to S$1,117.20 were recovered and seized as case exhibits.

The trio's modus operandi was to distract the victims before stealing their valuables, the police said in a statement on Saturday. They are also believed to be involved in several other cases of pickpocketing.
