sabi naman ng iba ung tranny mo ung bibigay when you regularly shift at low rpms (ie. <3000K)

for discussion's sake ... anyone have any idea how long before bumigay ang engine/tranny when you shift at low rpms? kasi palagi ko nababasa nga 'to when the topic's gear shifting pero does it really happen and how long before nga bumigay ung mga bibigay? la lang ...

I think shifting depends on many things.

    1. If you are going up to a hill or mountain, you should use proper gear, but make sure you're not in the redline.

    2. If you are going downhill, stay in the lower gears (engine break) rather than using your brakes.

    3. If you are in a stop-and-go traffic, smooth, laid-back driving is what you need. Upshift as soon as possible.

    4. If you are passing, downshift to the next gear. This will give you better power & fuel economy ratio than squeezing your gas at top gear.

    5. Driving aggressively will affect your fuel mileage. Try to be familiar with your engine's power delivery. Go to the next gear as soon as you think your engine can handle it.

korek! my ride is 5+yrs old na and my shifting pattern when driving in the city is to shift to the highest gear possible to save fuel, but when in a long distance driving , id try to achieve the highest speed possible namaN SA HIGHWAY, so minsan i'd rev up to 2500rpm to 3500rpm then shift up, for better pull and higher speed. down shifting naman depends on, kng when ur car jerks because your on high gear and the engine just cant turn the wheels properly or takes too long to achieve faster acceleration.

Sa RPM ako tumitingin lagi, stick shift man o matic,..Yong impreza sti ko merong rev limiter adjustment...depende sa mood of driving basta hwag lang i-redline....

TANONG: Which one consumes more fuel or which one is better?

    a. yung sobrang ingay na ng engine coz you're in a lower gear on a high rpm (e.g. 2nd gear 2500rpm)

    b. yung medyo naaalanganin ang engine coz you're in a higher gear on a low rpm (e.g. 3rd gear 1000rpm)

parehpong detrimental yan sa makina and sa tranny.

laging compromise ang tranny and engine activity para wala sa isa too much burden.

it is very difficult to discuss this kind of topic if you don't know the basic functions and characteristics ng mechanical parts ng kotse.

i suggest you read up more on the basics first....www.howstuffworks.com is an informative site.

for me as long as hindi nag knonocking sound ang engine, nag uupshift ako when city driving kahit na low rpm, sometimes nasa 5th gear na ako pero 1500rpm lang...

pero pag highway naman naku todo bilis.. hehe im changing my gear at around 3k to 3500 rpm

Tanong lang, kailangan ba sagad sa floor ang clutch when shifting. Tantsahan ba pati yung pag-release? Nanibago kasi ako nung iba dala kong sasakyan.

Sa up shifting, by the car's manual ako pero minsan sa pakiramdaman na lang pati yung pag down shifting.

dapat sagad ang tapak sa clutch always when changing gears or else masisira lining ng clutch mo.

My car is a 1.6 Lancer GLS (2001). I usually shift my gears during normal driving at 2000 RPM. Mas mataas pag nag o overtake. When downshifting, from 5th to 4th gear, basta bumaba ng 2000 rpm. From 4th to 3rd (and 3rd to 2nd), basta bumaba ng 1500 rpm ako nag d dwon shift. From 2nd to 1st gear, at around 1200 to 1000 rpm ako nag d dwon shift.

wala namang required speed or rpm talaga. as long as the engine doesnt buck from too low revs at the upshift, okay lang yun. you can shift from 4th to 5th at 1500 rpm if you like hehe, without any adverse effect.

usually sa gas engines, you can shift at 2,000 rpm at every gear if you want

you can always feel it when you need to upshift or downshift. alangan naman lagi ka na lng nakatingin sa mga gauges mo everytime you change gear, baka sa hospital ang punta mo nyan. "be one with your engine"

a good friend once told me na pag too early ka nag upshift, it puts too much pressure on the engine thus consumes more fuel than normal. sometimes kasi, if the road is not so smooth and malakas ang stereo, mahirap pakiramdaman ang sasakyan. lalo na pag bagong bili, hindi gaanung umaangal ang makina kahit naaalangan.

i also notice na hindi sa lahat ng oras, you can rely on the rpm alone. iba ang response ng engine depende sa load. i usually upshift at 2000rpm, but its different when i have passengers, medyo naaalanganin ang makina during upshift at 2000rpm.

pag nag-uupshift ba, halos pinagsasabay ang pagbitaw ng clutch at pagtapak ng accelerator? or make sure to fully release the clutch first before stepping on the accelerator?

basta hindi nag-lu-lug yung makina, okay lang yun. diesels and engines with good bottom-end torque will turn happily at 1000 rpm all day long hehe.

sabay yung throttle at clutch release, toe into the throttle while releasing the clutch. if not, hindi smooth yung shift, babagsak yung revs.

Agree ako dyan. Ang sarap pag tantyado mo na yung shifting, it's a small victory behind the wheel.

The discipline and exhiliration of shifting manually on the road, I will never trade that for an automatic tranny...

mga katsikot, quick question lang, sa shifting kasi when i shift sa 1500 rpm from 1st-2nd gear, bumpy ang ride parang jackrabbit acceleration ehe, do i need to increase my rpm sa 2k when shifting? kasi i noticed sa rpm pag shift ko to 2nd gear bumababa nang 1k ang rpm..
