That is the Manu Matic...can be shifted manually, or automatically. it often has a normal gearshift that can be placed in drive (for automatic) or can be moved in to a '+ -' mode (for upshift and downshift). Most manu-matics have a computer override that automatically upshifts when you hit a rev limiter.
Its electronic gear shifting without a clutch. Basically, you can manually select the gear you want to be in but without using a clutch. Sort of like changing gears in a video game.

btw dun sa pregio matic namin meron na overdrive button ayun nga yung nag iindicate sa panel board na power then meron pa siyang HOLD button na maliit sa ilalim ng main button para makapag shift

if kambisado mo na mag drive ng AT you wont need to turn the OD off.
baka masira pa yan kakapatay. may technique sa pag tapak sa gas nyan.
IMO no, wag ka mag base sa speed, pakiramdaman mo makina mo.
for me dapat naka iwan lang sa on ang OD button para mas matipid. (minsan kasi nakakalimutan na naka off ang od tapos nag papatakbo ng mabilis that will result on high FC. )
yung power ginagamit yan halimbawa pag paakyat ka ng uphill road. delayed ang shifting nyan . sa higher RPM nag che change gear ang tranny jan para hindi ka mabitin pero malakas sa gas yan.

November 30th, 2008 12:49 PM #27since sa mga old A/T transmission hindi uso yung may + or - sign na parang manual matic.. kaya O/D ang nakalagay para kahit papaano eh ma control mo "manually" yung transmission... lets say nasa 80kph ka and suddenly you want to overtake.. you turnoff O/D and your transmission will shift to 3rd gear allowing you to overtake... another technique is to simply press the gas pedal more and your transmission will sense that thru its throttle cable and will automatically downshift to the next gear..
it is recommended to have O/D always ON!! kasi sa totoo lang wala naman talaga yan function on normal driving mode.. mgagamit mo yan sa ibang mode like D2 or S sa mode na yan its either you can limit the transmission from shifting up to 2nd gear only or sa ibang cars you can HOLD the transmission sa 2nd gear para mas efficient FC mo during traffic, sa mode like D1 or L (low gear) magagamit mo yan to hold you transmission on 1st gear only..
most A/T with torque converters have more power on modes D2 or S and D1 or L since the tranmission is pumping more ATF to the torque converters to provide more connection between the engine and the transmission
also if you happen to notice most A/T with torque converters upon reaching 80kph at 4th gear with 2000rpm you will notice that there is another "kick" and will lower your rpm to 1,800, this additional kick is provided by the transmission to pump more ATF to the torque converter thus providing more engine traction to the transmission

Just to answer this question, leave it off and you can go as fast as you want in top gear (or as fast as the car/environment permits). However, if you turn it off, the car shifts to a lower gear. Then you should know what the maximum speed the car can reach at that gear. If you're not sure then don't push it, turn the overdrive on and let it upshift to protect the engine/transmission from damage.
