I read somewhere that majority of car accidents are manual transmissions. Coincidence? I don't know. If driving manual is a controlled atmosphere, then why the facts?

The best way is to drive around 6-7pm in Makati with a manual. I assure you, maiinis ka, lalo na pag cable type pa ang clutch. Ask yourself how much driving hours you'll spend with the car. For me, city is equal to matic. Highway or out of town is better with manual. Although I still prefer matic anytime.

FYI: A lot of top drag racers are using matic. Why? Because there's no human misshifts compared to manuals. Every millisecond counts.

    My .02 cents.

FYI: YOU aren't driving a 500-1000HP top fuel dragster in metro manila. So whats the point in quoting top drag racers? We drive 1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6/1.8/2.0 liter cars which have a typical HP rating of 75 to 140HP.

I have driven aggressively both M/T & A/T cars. Both have their pros and cons. The biggest con in an A/T is the time delay before the torqueconverter locks up and starts to turn the drive wheels. SO in a typical drag race with 1.3-2.0 liter cars... mostly M/Ts will win (unless the HP advantage is very big in the A/T). This is why my current car (A/T) is NOT setup for drag but more for street/circuit style configuration.

    haha!

Pissword, yup, i got a new baby!

Actually, pag mahina makina mo olats talaga mag-matic. But take our RAV4's AT for example, Electronically controlled and all. Overtaking with a powerful engine and AT isnt really hard at all.

    meron kaming gen2 CR-V na A/T at gen2 CR-V na M/T hehe...

mas masarap mag drive nung M/T pag walang trapik; iba pa rin yung feel ng M/T, especially one with a slick shifter like honda's.

pero pag daily commute, ay nako, yung A/T nalang please. much smoother (A/Ts are inherently smoother than M/Ts because of the fluid coupling), hindi pa pagod yung paa mo. even the slickest manual shifter is no fun if you're always slipping the clutch in 1st gear in traffic hehehe

manual pag walang traffic pero if there's traffic a/t ako.
Pag overtaking i go with manuals. Bitin kasi pag matic.
mas matipid ang manual sa gas.
Mas mahal ata ang transmission ng matic pag nasira

A/T all the way. Overtake sa hiway or incline switch o/d to off so mag downshift ung transmission mo then floor it, after makalampas swith o/d on.

Depends on the car. Civics dont have direct selection of L in their a/t tranny so that will be a problem. Other cars like Sentra or Corolla can select L and that gives a big boost of acceleration when trying to overtake slower cars.

    What is an L, like an L1 , L2?

What you do if you need added ooomp is to downshift.

How ? TURN OFF O/D , The A/T will downshift to 3rd gear then floor it , it might downshift to 2nd or if you have enough speed already the A/T will hold 3rd then you will see the Tach climb up to near redline (if it needs to) .

Actually even with o/d on, you can manually shift to L (or 1) and get all the acceleration you'll need.

Anyway, with the O/D on or off in my car, if the shifter is in D, the engine will never reach the tach's redline. It will shift around 4000rpm (redline at 6300).

i'd stick w/ an A/T car, altough i drive a manual. if you need power, go get a car w/ a bigger engine. M/T cars are so tiring and stressful to drive nowadays given the traffic condition we have.

I go with nothing other than manual. Always have, always will.

There's something intensely satisfying about moving the gear shift, every time you prepare to overtake another car or climb an incline. Wala yang pinag-iba sa pagkasa mo ng baril - you know that what comes next will blow them away, hehe.

Also, a manual transmission helps keep me alert on the road, what with the extra attention needed to correctly calculate the shift points. I imagine that with an automatic tranny, I'd become too comfortable and will most likely fall asleep behind the wheel.

I agree with Ungas, the manual tranny's appeal lies in its complexity.

I've fallen asleep in a M/T car. basically it doesn't really matter if its a m/t or a/t. Best way to keep awake is to stop the car and get out for a short walk.

Not directed to anyone in particular.

Sometimes the people who says that mabagal ang A/T, are the ones who just don't know how to use them right.

Specially with todays electronically controlled A/T, grade logic A/T, self learning A/T.

By the way the Grade Logic ones <---- they do really know when to hold and when to down and up shift. You should try one.

Probably yung mga old tech ones yung mga 70's yun mabagal talaga mag respond.
