we have a 96 Galant SS A/T, sira na yun transmission nya coz it starts at 3rd gear right away at the same time nago-overheat. my question is related ba ang sira ng a/t transmission sa pag-overheat nya? pina-checked ko na kasi yun radiator, water pump, fans, etc. ok naman daw. so i was thinking na baka connected yun sa sira ng transmission since iba ang radiator ng a/t sa manual tranny.

    2. r u sure nagoverheat...as in umuusok? kasi baka yung guage lang ang sira...

    hero,

    1. i still run the car from 3rd gear, the a/t tranny wont shift gears until it reaches 120kph, kaya hirap sya kapag pataas so nag shishift ako sa 2L, ayaw pa ipagawa ng dad ko coz minsan lang gamitin yun car and pina-estimate sa casa..pcha 100k..wew

    2. i dont think na sira ang guage kase kapag malamig yun temp, maayos din yun tranny, meaning nagi-start sya sa 1st gear pero when i use it for around 30 minutes na, dun nagsisimula magloko yun tranny

btw, ano ba ang difference ng radiator ng a/t and m/t? bakit iba?

I used to have a Galant VR A/T... So I'm quite familiar with the A/T Problems that the Galant Experiences...
i'm just curious... how do you know that upon starting and shifting to D... your starting in 3rd gear already? I figure if that happens your car would stall or something...

why do you say that the radiator of an A/T and M/T is different? as far as I know it's the same... If you really want to know if you've screwed your transmission... check your ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). Do this by pulling the White Ring by your transmission. It's like your oil dip stick... but smaller.... if your transmission is fried... you'll smell a burnt smell when sniffing the fluid... if your transmission is ok... it has a sweet aroma....

does the car jerk when shifting gears? does it reach 4th gear at all? or always is on 3rd gear as you say? If it's shifting abnormally... it might be a burnt solenoid...

I know of a place that fixes all types of transmissions for practically every car... it's quite known in the Local Auto World ... and even by the Casa's who occasionally send their A/T problems to this shop.... (IMHO... I think this guy fixes AT's better than the Casa's themselves... I have first hand experience on this too...)

    Check out his shop :

    Lucas Automatic Transmission Specialist
    (Philippines 1st Specialist)
    From Canada

    Prop: Mr Erick Lucas
(if he's not around.... look for Jun)

    Tel No. : 840-3922
    Fax: 840-3921

BLK. 38 LOT 2 PH.3 AFPOVAI, Western Bicutan, Taguig
    Beside TESDA

you'd see all kinds of cars here... from Beamers, Mercs, Volvo's and Jap cars...

he's quite reasonable... a lot cheaper than Casa rates as well (if at the casa it's around 100k... you'd probably spend around 40 to 50k depending on the problem)... but you gotta make an appointment if your new... but if he knows you... it's ok...

I had a small radiator installed to cool down my ATF on my VR before... does work... most especially if you have a heavy foot....

if you want more tips... i got a few more... i'm quite experienced when it comes to AT Problems... coz i've had quite a few... hehehe :mrgreen::mrgreen:

my A/T seems to function only with 2nd and 3rd gear, would not engage in overdrive. But in the morning or after the vehicle is rested the AT will function perfectly but after 15 to 20 minutes of driving, the problem will occur. ATF is ok, no burnt smell and replaced with dextron lll, filter is ok and the valve body is overhauled. Computer box was replaced.
Could it be the computer box? Is it programmable or simply don't match with the A/T?
    Thank you....

AT needs a cooling coil for the ATF or it will get very hot, and ruin your AT. Normally, the ATF is cooled by the radiator. The AT cooling coil is inside the radiator, where you put the coolant. If the engine is overheating, it will affect
the ATF. The ATF will also overheat. Check your AT if there are small pipes/hose that is connected to it going to the radiator. Or else, I don't know how your ATF is being cooled.

btw, ano ba ang difference ng radiator ng a/t and m/t? bakit iba?

    Good day jojoico,

Just to share my knowledge. Ang manual transmission walang radiator. halos air cooled lng ang transmission fluid. ang automatic tranny, may 2 klase ng cooler. kelangan kasi mamaintain ung operating temp ng atf to prolong yung atf lifespan nya as well as the auto tranny parts (stator, turbine, gears, etc)
The 1st type is ung internal cooler. Internal ibig sabihin nasa loob ng engine radiator nung cooler ng auto tranny. to check, trace the hoses coming from the tranny. kung pumasok ung hose sa engine radiator, internal cooler type meron ka. i.e. ung heat from the tranny is transferred to the atf, then from atf to the engine radiator coolant, then from the radiator coolant to the ambient air.

2nd type is ung external cooler. this one is my sariling radiator/heat exchanger. kung ung hoses from the auto tranny connects to a radiator (hindi sa engine radiator ha at usually mas maliit ung size baka mas maliit pa kesa condenser ng AC), you have the external type. i.e. the heat from the tranny is directly rejected sa ambient air via the atf.

Hope this info will guide you.
