Try to disconnect your car battery and re-connect it. Sometime computer does weird things. When the computer "resets", it will automatically learn again and may correct the problem you are encountering. This may be the first step before you move onto next step.

You can try to adjust the shift linkage first, also check all the connector and see if solve the problem, if not you have to change the switch circuit under the console.
