December 5th, 2004 03:57 AM #2Clutch fluid = Brake fluid
If you have extra brake fluid lying around, pwede na yun. Pa-check mo rin baka may leak, kaya mababa na sya. Pag sobrang baba, you won't be able to disengage the clutch, therefore, hindi ka makaka-kambyo.
The mechanic's probably not pulling your leg. Unless your clutch is not hydraulic. :D

Brake fluid does go down in time as your brake pads and shoes wear.
Clutch fluid rarely goes down unless there was a leak.
However, it is common practice to flush and replace all the fluids in these systems at least once every two years (or even annually).
Brake fluid is hygroscopic. It attracts water and can cause the metal components of your clutch and brake systems to rust.

you can check naman visually kung bumaba nga yung fluid level. kung may brake fluid ka pa dyan lagyan mo lang then observe after a week or two. kung bumaba sya then may leak ka somewhere. normally kasi di dapat bumaba level ng clutch fluid.

Just remember that hydraulics is a closed system, so mababawasan lang yan kung may leak. Even without leaks, you will still experience some loss, after all, it's not a perfect world. This would be very gradual though.

may expiration din ang brake fluids. gaya ng sabi ni otep, it attracts moisture once nabuksan ang container. I don't usually stock on brake fluid, kaya sa mechanic
ko nalang at least mabilis ang turnover ng fluid sa kanila.
