I would sugest for you to put up a sign in front of you with BRIGHT LED lights everytime your handbrake is engaged.

!!! YOUR HANDBRAKE is ENGAGED !!!

Seriously, maybe you could do a chant for the sequence of items that you need to operate, something like steps or procedure.

it comes with practice ... older drivers don't even think about it, their driving habits are so routine, their hand automatically goes to the handbrake soon after shifting to a gear

you will learn that too

I hope you "get the feel" of your car sooner than later, para maiwasan ang damage sa car mo.

A friend of mine drove our car for 6 kms at 40-50 kph.

You should use it more often, like in traffic jams, at stop lights, on inclines, etc.

Practice lang naman yan. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

---

Personally, I'd rather be an idiot who moves his car with the hand brake still on ... rather than a bigger idiot who leaves his car with the hand brake off.

this happened to me when i was still new to driving nung college sa B12 ko.
what i did to relieve me of the bad habit is use...
... yellow POST-ITs! hehehe...
i place it on the hazard button area para lagi kong nahahagip ng tingin...

ayun, after a month or so, habit ko na laging hawak ung handbrake when nakastop... release when ready to drive ulet...

This thread reminds mo of my mistakes when i was still a newbie at driving.
I was told to put the gear in first gear or reverse after engaging the handbrake when parking my car. As in madalas nangyari ito. At one point naputol cable ng handbrake.
Well now I have the habit of pressing the clutch pedal fully before starting the car kahit nailagay ko na sa neutral.
