the laws imposed upon each and every four-wheeled vehicle driver are also in force for the protection of motorcycle riders as well. i concur with your opinion that a lot of accidents happen everyday wherein motorcycle riders are involved. however, i will definitely not agree with you that mc riders alone should be blamed. we, motorcycle riders, should be the one to push for more legislative enactments for our own sake because a lot four-wheeled vehicle drivers do not respect our right to use our national roads.

^ Yeah. That keyboard needs replacing, or his spell checker, err.... checked. :D

On a serious note though, MC riders do deserve to have equal rights as far as the use of public roads. It's just that (this applies to car drivers as well), many don't know how to use the road PROPERLY. For instance, MC's would bunch up for pole position in a stoplight. When the light turns green, about half of them would eat up 75% of the lanes doing 40kph and blocking the vehicles behind in the process, even though there's room to do 60kph or higher.

As an occasional MC rider myself and whenever I have the opportunity to be in front, I make sure that I'll be out of the way of the car behind me as soon as the light turns green. Stay out of the fast lane if you can't or don't want to keep up.

Stay out of way nalang from MC, yaan mo silang mangamatay..Most of them sila ang mga may kasalanan. It's not we dont respect and giving equal road rights sa mga MC riders. It is just dahil sa maliit ay madali imaneuver ang motor nila kahit ganung alanganin sisingit ng sisingit.

Have you ever experience na with the yellow line in the middle eh lalabas parin sila kahit may kasalubong na parang sure na sure sila na tatabi ang mga sasakyang mkakasalubong?

i had an experienced with a of group of MC along olongapo-gapan road. imagine nagcoounterflow sila sa traffic then they want me to go on the side and give way to them. some eh nagwawang wang pa then they will block your way para makalusot ung ibang members nila. if they want to have an equal road right eh dapat sundin nila ang proper driving. pag yellow line sa middle o no-overtaking dapat pumila sila like 4wheeled vehicle eh ang nangyayari sumisingit sa left and right. dami ding wlang utak na sa right oovertake. one time muntik ako makahagip ng MC. 3 buildings away nagsignal na ako ng right turn, before ako nagturn ng steering ko clear ung right side but then biglang may lumitaw MC sa tapat ng right fender ko buti na lang nakapagbreak ako.

good day sirs,.just want to make a quick response to what TS topic.

But nothing can be more silly and dangerous than to borrow measures developed from the experiences of other countries. What we do with motorcycles, how we ride them, for what purpose, and under what conditions, are very much shaped by the particularities of our culture and societal reality. The encounter between technology and culture is basically unpredictable. To adopt new road use arrangements, like designating a special lane for motorbikes, without the benefit of a systematic study, may only complicate traffic and cause even more accidents.

There is no excuse for irresponsible driving, but I argue that many collisions between bikers and other motorists occur because the latter have not learned to “see” the former as legitimate road users. I believe that the first thing we need to accept is that motorized two-wheelers — “underbones,” scooters, and big bikes — insofar as they pay the vehicle registration fee and road user’s tax, have the same entitlement to the use of the roads as four-wheel vehicles. On major thoroughfares and expressways, where traffic is fast-moving, restrictions on access may be imposed against some types of vehicles. But that is another issue.

The relative “invisibility” of motor bikers in the radar screens of the average Filipino motorist is mainly due to the fact that cars and buses came to our country way ahead of motorcycles. This is unlike the situation in big cities like Delhi, Bangkok, Saigon and Jakarta where two-wheelers achieved a critical mass on city streets long before an emerging middle class could afford cars. In our case, the transition is from four wheels to two, which testifies not only to the decline of a postwar automobile culture, but also to the country’s failure to provide an adequate mass transit system to its growing population. The exponential growth of remittances from our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the entry of low-priced bikes from China greatly accelerated the acquisition of motorbikes by lower-income Filipinos in just the last 10 years.

What this means basically is that motorcycles, which now constitute about 45 percent of all registered motor vehicles in the country, are at that point in the transition where they take their visibility for granted and tend to be more aggressive in the struggle for limited street space. This is a situation that aggravates drivers of other vehicles no end. As they sit helplessly in slow-moving traffic, they are inclined to vent their fury on the two-wheel riders in “puruntong” [knee-length] shorts who recklessly weave in and out of the train of steaming cages. The market for small commuter motorbikes will continue to grow. We can anticipate a time when motorbikes will be dominant on Metro Manila’s streets. When that time comes, deaths from motorcycle accidents will hopefully go down, rather than up. For there is safety in increased visibility.
