Good news to all "southerners!": http://www.skyway.com.ph/news/63-sky...-now-open.html

Skyway project developer, Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation (CMMTC), and Skyway operator, Skyway O&M Corporation (SOMCO), opened to traffic the Skyway extension to Alabang at 4 p.m. on April 6.

Skyway Stage 2 was inaugurated in the morning prior to the said opening. Transportation and Communication Secretary Jose P. de Jesus, who was designated by President Benigno Aquino III to attend the event in his stead, led the inaugural run through the new section. Joining him are Vice President Jejomar Binay, CMMTC Chairman Jose P. Magno III, CMMTC President and Chief Executive Officer Shadik Wahono, Indonesian Ambassador Yohanes Kristiarto Soeryo Legowo, D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI) president and chief operating officer Jorge Consunji and other high-ranking government officials. A short program followed at the new Skyway Main Toll Plaza where Secretary de Jesus delivered a message from President Aquino, who had to decline from joining the Stage 2 inauguration due to previous work commitments. Meanwhile, former president Fidel V. Ramos, under whose administration the South Metro Manila Skyway Project was initiated as one of the government’s flagship infrastructure projects, also graced the Skyway inauguration.

CMMTC and its main contractor, DMCI,. began to construct Skyway Stage 2 in May 2009. By the end of March 2011, the project was substantially completed, ahead of its May 2011 official target schedule. The project’s Bicutan-Sucat section was completed and opened to traffic on December 15.

After the Skyway extension to Alabang is opened, the temporary On/Off ramps in the Bicutan area will be closed. Motorists coming from or going to SLEX can instead use the new permanent On/Off ramps across Hillsborough Subdivision while those coming from or going to Alabang will use the Alabang On/Off Ramps at South Station.

Also, the Skyway Toll Plaza A and B will no longer process toll transactions. All transactions such as E-Pass and payment for current toll fees of P85 for Class 1 vehicles and P170 for Class 2 vehicles will be done at the toll plazas in Dona Soledad, Dr. A. Santos and Alabang.

The Bicutan-Alabang section will be toll-free for 2 weeks before CMMTC implements the new toll rates for the integrated Skyway System.
Someone told me that a friend of theirs took only 8 mins from Nichols to Alabang. Now that's what I call driving. I just hope that the slow moving jologs drivers don't hog the fast lane as news of this spreads. Gentlemen, start your engines.

Nagulat ako sa SLEX. Last time na dumaan ako dun New Year's day, marami pang kalat ng construction noon, ngayon walang wala na.

good news for us who's from the south. may choice ka na.....its' either skyway or slex. tamang-tama, ang exit namin madalas, sa alabang.

ilang minutes na ba yang alabang, via skyway? may nakasubok na ba?

I tried it last night (from Magallanes ramp up to Alabang South Station Exit),- here are the updates, based on my limited observation:

    1. Toll gates at the NAIA3 area (southbound) are now disabled. So, no more build up of traffic at these tollgates because of the queue of vehicles.
    2. Ramp down at Bicutan reentering SLEX also now disabled.
    3. Nice tollgate interchange between Sucat and Alabang. Good design. You pay here, and if you're proceeding to the South Station Exit,- you pay another round of toll.....
    4. After the rampdown near Hillsborough/Alabang Hills, reentering SLEX, there is practically just one lane going towards the Alabang South Station Exit. If one gets into an accident or one puffs out, then traffic build up would be horrendous. (The same is true with the Sucat Exit,- practically just one lane going toward the toll booth and the rempdown merging with Sucat Road)....
    5. Good merging scheme from Skyway rampdown into the Alabang-Zapote Road.

I was observing the flow of vehicles in Sucat this morning, and I see a lot of them patronizing the Skyway, both northbound and southbound between Sucat and Alabang.....

Anyone who could confirm this, please?

I think wala, I emailed Citra about this ang sabi it's for their new system daw, siguro para distinguish na nila kung galing ng C5 or Nichols.

    here's their reply:

    1. The plazas and toll booths being constructed are for entry of
vehicles. The new system requires for the issuance of toll cards at the
entry, hence the new plazas. The toll rates will still be the same for
    Nichols and C5

^^^ Thanks bro.... Now, that is perplexing (dahil they already got rid of this activity)....

Why would the new system require a toll card for their first entry point?
(At, pareho naman ang toll rates for both Nichols and C5)

^^^ Yup,- kaya from C5 going south, enter ako ng Nichols/Ft.

Or, tawid papuntang NAIA3,- ikot sa rotonda and then ramp up sa SKyway southbound.

From 6-8lanes yata na nagiging 3...

maybe they can't construct higher than the existing bridge going down SLEX, dahil airport doon eh baka meron provision sa height ng mga structures...

    Bro.,- yes.

I think(?) that at that point, the Skyway is near to or at ground level and is to the left of SLEX southbound. So, the highest infrastructure is the bridge from C5 to SLEX southbound. I could be wrong though.

There is at least 2km of road na halos single-lane lang from the rampdown at Alabang Hills back to SLEX Southbound to the Alabang South Station Exit. And, about 400meters naman sa Sucat Exit....Isang stalled vehicle lang na hindi makalusot ang iba,- malaking parking lot ang Skyway, dahil saan manggagaling ang hihila?

Counterflow? Throw the car over the side?

Even the northbound section from around Alabang to Sucat is too narrow... two lanes is going to be a big handicap when it goes into regular operation.

Can't tell for certain dahil e-pass ako. Unless humingi ako ng record of usage...

Skyway extension to Alabang now open
