I wonder if they can actually do this.
If they do, then that's a nice proposition. Tataas value ng binili namin na condo... hehe. I did always wonder how it would feel to have a second level EDSA (without buses) whenever i drive up the EDSA - Rockwell or the Ayala-EDSA flyover during rush hour (where you see the traffic below and you're driving at a fast clip before going down).

MANILA, Philippines — A new EDSA (Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue) might soon rise in Metro Manila to address the traffic congestion in the metropolis, Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson disclosed on Monday.
Singson said they were looking at either putting an “elevated” expressway or a tunnel to decongest the traffic.
“EDSA to us is a struggle. EDSA can no longer absorb widening so what’s our option?” said Singson during the hearing of the Senate finance committee.
“We are doing a metro expressway for NCR [National Capital Region]. And this is either we put on top of EDSA a second level or we do a tunnel,” he said.
“We’re completing a study on that and it looks like the elevated expressway on EDSA will be [built]. Bagong [New] EDSA,” Singson said. “We are finalizing our plans to do a new EDSA.”
This will be a engineering/design nightmare with all the existing structure like the MRT/MRT Stations. That's what you get for short sighted management.
Shaw Blvd. will be one problem. I can also imagine the monstrous traffic it will generate.
It doesnt have to be the entire stretch of EDSA all at once. They can do it in phases such as Makati - Mandaluyong - Q.C. first, then the other extensions and connections later on.
Or...
You just build an elevated, circumferential expressway elsewhere. Something that links Taguig - Eastern Metro (Taytay/Cainta) - C5 - Northern Metro (Q.C.) with several elevated tributaries coming from Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig and Manila.
Yeah, there would be bottlenecks but one thing to manage it is to determine where most of the cars start to filter off from EDSA which is basically Makati and QC (IMO) and thats where you put your exits.
Either way, this is really a headache to plan and implement. This again, is a result of our lack of long term planning. When the MRT and various EDSA flyovers were built, we never looked forward enough to consider that one day, EDSA could be double level.
What's more realistic? This elevated EDSA highway being built or PNoy having kids and settling down?![]()
The solution to traffic in EDSA is simple. KEEP VEHICLES MOVING. Eliminate anything that introduces delay, even for just one second. This includes those idiotic PUV's swerving, stopping all over the place and clogging up the road with their stupidity, trucks and buses making huge U-turns, stupid U-turn implementation and placements, etc.
Also, change those stupid lane markings in EDSA. Notice how in some parts of EDSA, the middle lane for private vehicles suddenly becomes the leftmost lane and then becomes the middle lane at some point again?
kelangan na gumastos si PNoy
he has been holding back govt spending
ayaw maglabas ng pera kasi takot sa corruption
bumagal naman ng economy
very good
IMO they should just promote growth in the provinces by building infrastructure, giving tax perks and anything they can think of to make investing/living there more attractive. Encourage people to move out and stay there. That should decongest Metro Manila.
Woah if this is going to be like skyway, wag nalang. We will have to bear years of excruciating traffic in EDSA for that.
The best thing to do parin is like what others said: Educate motorists of correct and proper road etiquettes.
oo nga. na-kahon siya sa impractical campaign promises niya na no unnecessary gov't spending, no increase/new taxes, etc. tapos hindi pa din nag take-off iyong ppp scheme ng gov't kaya medyo nawala iyong rosy outlook ng mga investors at lenders natin. oh well, at least he's changing his mind w/ regards to those medyo hilaw moves of his
btt: that would be nice to see but the planning has got to be detailed and extensive. what if they do new elevated roads over the pasig river? at least dun walang problema sa mga right of way and if done properly hindi naman siguro mag cocongest ang pakitid na pakitid at tuloy tuloy na siltation sa ilog pasig. posible ba iyan? medyo unconventional thinking lang po![]()
With modern engineering, possible. Check the 54km 6-lane Bang Na elevated Expressway of Bangkok, Thailand constructed 11 years ago.
