The MMDA "lightning" struck me twice this weekend. I couldn't decide whether or not this would fall under the Goon Squad HQ section so I just decided to post it here.

    Saturday:

I was stopped by an MMDA official at the Ortigas-EDSA stoplight last Saturday. He asked me for the registration and papers of the car that I was driving, which is one of our company vehicles - a blue plated Land Cruiser. He asked me a series of questions e.g where did I come from, who's car is this, etd. I politely told him that it is one of our company vehicles and I just came from the Greenhills shopping complex where I dropped one of our foreign guests to do some shopping and that I was heading back to Makati to return the vehicle. The Q&A portion went for a two minutes or so then I asked him what is the fuss all about. The guy politely told me that they were just on the lookout for hot cars. I politely told him he can call the office to check but he said that it's not necessary since the papers I have seem to be in order. No harm done I guess. He was just doing his job. But I did suffer some form of embarassment since the motorists beside me were straining to look at what was going on.

    Sunday
Same spot, the same MMDA flagged me down again. This time, I was driving my own vehicle. He accosted me for "trying to beat the yellow light". I told him that I was not trying to beat it since I was already halfway turning left toward Corinthian gardens when the light turned yellow. After a couple of minutes of...lively discussion, he politely told me that, for next time, I should anticpate when the light would turn yellow so I would not get caught in it whern I'm half-way to a turn. Now, how the heck would I do that huh?

What are the chances of a motorist getting flagged down by the same MMDA official in a matter of two days.

    Weird.

how can you anticipate when the lights would turn yellow? lagyan din kaya nila ng timer lahat ng traffic lights gaya ng sa roxas blvd.

there is no such violation as "trying to beat the yellow light"!!!!! the yellow light is suppose to be a warning that the light will turn red, passing thru the intersection while the light is still yellow is not against traffic rules.

(prolly the same freakin policeman with no freakin' brains!!!)...ang pagkakakwento nya sa kin is yellow pa lang yung light, nasa gitna na yung pulis at pinapatigil n sha...as expected, aabutan sha ng red. ang ginawa ni bro, inilagan nya un g pulis...kase yellow pa lang naman ehhh. pagdating on the other side, dun sha pinatigil nung isa pang kasabwat. heller!?!? tama po si sir yebo; "there is no such violation as 'trying to beat the yellow light'!!!!!" hinde naman sha pinatagal kse anak ng isang retired MMDA yung gf nya na kasama nya at that time...natakot siguro...

the mmda guy just looked at me and walked to their outpost parang walang narinig... shouted at the driver of the flagged down car... wag mo bibigay DL mo, idemanda mo pag pinilit... now his mmda walked away... di ko alam kung nilagyan nya o nahiya yung mmda...

those guys in that area really make a lot of money on private motorists... and turn blind when it comes to PUVS...

not weird... its a MMDA hot spot where they catch a LOT of motorist whenever the light turns yellow and you are still in the yellow box. I was in the yellow box when the yellow light came. They tried to flag me down, I just drove on.
