June 25th, 2011 12:09 PM #1MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Metro Manila Council (MMC), the agency’s policy-making arm, agreed Thursday to impose a maximum speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) for all types of vehicles along Diosdado Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the speed limit is needed to minimize the high rate of vehicular accidents caused by drag racing along the avenue, which links southern Metro Manila and the province of Cavite. The avenue has a total of eight lanes, is 35 meters wide and almost five kilometers long.
He said the shopping centers and other establishments that have cropped up along Macapagal Avenue multiplies the volume of vehicles, “which results in the high rate of road accidents and tragic loss of lives, limbs and property, especially during nighttime when (the road) is also being used by drag racers.”
Tolentino said the speed limit will take effect 15 days after the publication in two newspapers of general circulation of the MMC resolution. The MMC is composed of the metropolis’ 17 mayors.
The MMDA imposed a 60-kph speed limit along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City in January to curb the frequency of fatal vehicular accidents, the most recent of which claimed the life of University of the Philippines journalism professor and veteran journalist Lourdes “Chit” Estella-Simbulan last month.

for sure yan na ang next nila topic, kasi dami baha these past days.

topic: 60kph speedlimit on Macapagal Ave....
Reason: Drag racers at night.
Problem: speed radar cameras don't work at night, MMDA often absent at night. Police presence totally lacking or inconsistent.
What is really needed: more MMDA and Police consistent enforcement of the anti-drag racing rules/laws already present, especially at night when most MMDA people disappear from sight.
What will just happen if the MMDA policy is enacted "as-is": many innocent drivers will be apprehended and tagged as bad guys because of "speeding" on a wide and mostly empty highway. This will end up as another money earning scheme for the MMDA. (Illegal) Drag racing of cars, motorcycles & scooters will not be affected at all.Last edited by ghosthunter; June 25th, 2011 at 12:53 PM.

Stupid amateurs TRYING to ru(i)n the country by enacting amateur rules. Have they actually done commonsensical thinking before cooking up this scheme? These guys need to go back to school and take up Philo I and focus on logic. Dang!

June 25th, 2011 01:39 PM #7I guess the MMDA "tent" at the top of pedestrian overpass wouldn't be a Commonwealth isolated scenery anymore. With so many laws unimplemented why bother making new ones? kaya halatang halata na for publicity lang yan eh.

Puro nalang speedlimit.
Bakit ayaw nila ayusin yung mas major issues like flooding? Dun for sure MARAMI matutuwa.

All they need high police visibility in the area.
Rami talaga "drag racers" dyan pag gabi.
Mas nakakaasar yung mga naka-motor dyan na karamihan mga jejemon. They run over 100kph usually without helmets.
Magugulat ka nalang biglang may humaharabas sa gilid mo.
