once dumating ka sa US yung Phil drivers license mo ay valid upto 6 months (actually depend on what state but in Mass it's 6 months) then after 6 months you need to apply for a license on that state.
your sister doesn't really need the IDL but the license issued by the Motor Vehicle Registry of that state. check out their website (each states MVR has websites I believe) and see the procedures as well as the rules.

ok pala sa US a. sa mga nakapag drive na sa US, how do feel driving there? naiisip ko kasi minsan kung mag abroad e mag rent-a-car dun. hirap kasi kapag kasama si mrs tapos nag shopping, ang bigat at ang sakit sa kamay ng mga shopping bags :| kapag me dala kang car, pwdeng dalhin muna sa car yung mga nabili. kaso iniisip ko baka maligaw ako and manibago sa driving style ng ibang country. lalo na sa hongkong na right hand drive.

March 12th, 2003 10:07 PM #4yup it is like that nga, the international driving license ay hindi necessary....when I was working in singapore and I had to drive the office van, I "swap" my philippine license lang (actually just showed them and they photocopied it) and then they issued me a local license valid for at least a year.
Sa mga tourist, our license would be valid na sa car rental....
Presence of mind lang talaga ang kailangan when driving on right hand drive cars on countries like, Singapore, Hongkong, Malaysia, Australia, Japan. Besides never drive if your not familiar in the area....grabe hassle.

Yup, hindi nga kailangan ang International License sa US kung tourist sya and she just needs to drive around town. Kung working (H-visas), L1, student (F1), immigrant or if she plans stay here in the US...... I suggest to get an International License. I saved $500 on my car insurance because of my previous insurance coverage from my International License.
Pareho lang ang driving dito sa US at sa Pinas. the only differences I could think of is that the roads here are wider, the trafffic is a lot faster, the drivers have more respect and are more corteous on other drivers, pedestrians, and traffic laws (ofcourse, the penalties here is a lot expenssive if you break a rule and got caught), the policemen can't be bribed, mahigpit makakuha ng license, roads have lots of signs and hindi ka talaga maliligaw, at higit sa lahat, bihirang uminit ang ulo ko dito while driving, hehehe.

Long drive is not a problem either... sarap magdrive from Mass to New York, Mass to DC, Mass to Niagara yun lang dapat meron kang kahalili magdrive.

Got mine in 2 kaya lang pagdating dito sa canada di rin honored mas honored pa phil drivers license good for 2 months from arrival. pwede rin exchange phil drivers license for canada license have to take lang vision test, knowledge test and G2 roadtest hindi na dadaan sa G1 or student license.
I was wondering kung may nakakaalam sa ibang mga taga tsikot kung papaano mapapababa ang insurance for new drivers like me, lkailangan bang mag aral pa sa driving school or pwede na phil driving experience or international drivers license??

Nagagamit namin phil license sa new england, yun gamit namin to rent cars and stuff before when we first got there... actually kahit sa arizona at florida nagamit din namin phil license.
