AFAIK, freeway or the interstate highway system ay mga roads na tinayo ng government and walang tollgates na nangongolekta ng fees.

    Expressway speeds ang biyahe dito.

Expressway have stoplights to allow traffic to cross and get on the expressway. Freeways do not have stoplights and there is no traffic that crosses it just on ramps and off ramps that allow other cars to merge with the flow of traffic or leave the freeway. Example of an expressway in NorCal is the San Tomas Expressway, Freeways are just called by their numbers, i.e. 101, 405, etc.

The flares are only useful pag sobrang dilim where the light output of the flares themselves help to locate the scene of an accident/road hazard.

    OT: This would mean ...

    US freeway = British motorway
US expressway = British A road

Yung dual-carriageway A road (e.g. A35), parang motorway din. Pareho lang max speed * 70mph unless indicated otherwise, pero may traffic lights o roundabouts.
