It would be fully automated. It's basically an warehouse system modified to store cars on "pallets". Such a system can either be fully automated or requires only one operator (who's main function is to collect your payment to use the parking facility).

This is actually the main warehouse of brand news cars of Volkswagen. This is a completely computerized system wherein cars that come of the assembly line are stored in this "parking" tower. When a customer buys a new VW car, the computer picks out the preferred model and color, and then is sent to the front of the dealership. This ensures the customer that his/her new car has never been driven by human beings, and the odometer is at zero.
IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
